Did it come of completely ? Pics ? You can try to push it from the back side and wedge it down to unlock.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've opened the pass-through door. I'm sure I'm a long ways from wearing mine out.

I'm in the "fingers-of-one-hand" club too. It's been locked for probably two years now!

Yea, most people dont even use it , less open it. I used it for a long item like some OEM MINI parts I hauled in the back one.

We don't use it a tone but if it wasn't there I would miss it.

On a daily basis it's not used a whole lot but I must say that when we travel some distance (not long distance because then the whole rear shelf is packed ) I love to have access to the trunk to get clothe layers when the weather and temperature changes and we don't know exactly what to put on. Sometime I use it to put a blanket for my wife for example so if she gets cold we pull it out easy.
In short I like it

Gonna have to think about beefing our pass through door up a tad. Need to figure out a way to use it as a platform for the all important Yorkie seat. Then there's the attaching of the harness straps to secure the pup, as well.

Used mine pretty much daily.

I worked at a prison so bringing personal property, pocketbooks ect not allowed. Just slipped it through into the trunk.

Again until recently long drives were my favorite so I often took advantage of the cooler.

Have to say MINI of Nashville did a great job and repair was covered under extended warranty.

Yea it does make a nice place to stow things, what I found it a place to hid your jacket or shoes. When its down it does look like a draw bridge doggy door
