Has anyone else had solenoid issues?

It's been awhile but I'm curious driving to new job, car is sputtering a bit. Next check engine light and limp mode. Drove straight to dealer. Seems a service bulletin for solenoid and parts are back ordered. Anyone had this done yet?

I wish I could help but the solenoid description is a little vague. There are many solenoid on cars sometime. Solenoid is just a technical term for electromagnetic switch. It's used to trigger a mechanical action using an electric current like you would get on an electronic door lock for example.
Technicality aside, it's too bad you don't have the codes that came with the CEL. It would have been very easy to know what area is involved that way.
Most likely it's not a big deal (failing solenoid) unless it caused additional damage.
Keep us posted!

I'm guessing this. Search "N18 oil wicking".

Interesting...the cross-referenced thread is quite specific to the N18 engine whilst noreen99's R59 has the naturally aspirated engine.

I thought there was a replacement method using a special tool that avoided oil pan removal. Not true?

Yes there is a fix plug. I replaced the solenoid with the updated one. So far so good.

Just for my education (since I've always had a turbo S), isn't the MINI non-turbo engine in a Justa still referred to as an N18? Or do all N18 engines have a turbo?
