R59 Skid plate on a Roadster
Skid plate on a Roadster
Anyone have a skid plate on their Roadster? Talked to the folks at Outmotoring and Rennline and it doesn't appear to be a problem installing the aluminum skid plate that Rennline manufactures, but no one seems to have added one to a Roadster. I spend a lot of time on NW Wisconsin roads in the summer. Some 'paved', some gravel, sometimes littered with critter parts. So, added protection is needed.
The ONLY skid plate that should be put on a roadster is the GP2 skid plate. I have lots of Rennline products, but the GP2 is light, inexpensive, fits like a glove, takes seconds to remove for oil changes. Flows to the side panels and rear GP2 diffuser. Etc. On this product let mini take care of all your needs.
The GP2 pan also has fiber glass which makes it very strong against cracking. In many ways that is a superior solution.
Plastics and especially composites have better dynamic properties than metals which are better for structural elements. Of course I'm simplifying things a little here... it's not always that black and white.
The reasons so many after market belly pans are made of metal is because it's a lot easier to customize for low volume. Not because it's the material of choice. But MINI can deal with larger quantities so they picked what fits better the need.
