R59 RIP snoopy :(
RIP snoopy :(
Well, that didn't last long!
My wife Jenn is doing OK after being rear ended by a jeep and totaling our 6 wk old roadster named Snoopy. We waited longer for delivery than we had it! Jenn has a concussion and whiplash but should make a full recovery after rest for her head and PT for her neck.
On the plus side, insurance covered the car and she ordered a new one in spice orange with the same options. Snoopy was pepper white but Jenn thought it would be weird to get the same exact car, bad luck mabey.
Here's a pic.
I haven't figured out how to insert full pics on my Ipad so here's a thumbnail.

Yes, the cabin was not damaged, I fact the salesman asked us for the pictures to show to people who ask about safety!
She was hit by a 99 Jeep Cherokee with push bars on the front and a roof rack that slid half way off the roof, we're lucky that it didn't come off and though the top ! All in all the car protected the occupant very well!
We're going to pickup the plates from the body shop tomorrow ,I'm going to ask them if the impact stopped where it did because of the roll bar or bracing of any kind or if the trunk and rear quarter panel absorbed all the impact.

Man, that's a heart breaker . . . So glad to hear your wife is not majorly hurt. Best wishes for her recovery. You don't want to rush the small stuff so it's time to take it easy...
I've always told my wife, no matter what, what counts the most in driving is to keep your distance. The closer someone tailgate you, the more you want to keep distance with the car in front of you. I really wish people would understand the value of keeping the distance between two cars and proportionally to the speed. It doesn't ever make anybody faster to tailgate. Truth!
On a positive side it's awesome she didn't get discourage driving the roadster
. . . so the next one will be called Tod or Copper?

PS: btw, what's the story behind the accident. What happened? road or highway sudden stop? at a light? lack of turn signal? etc...

As for the name, mabey Hobbs, or Tigger, she's fond of cartoon characters!

She couldn't open the door from the inside but the EMTs yanked it open, it operates but with force, also the top was wrinkled by the rear window. But not majorly impacted, just from the sheet metal behind the trunk. Here's a pic where you can see the wrinkles on the passenger side.
Best wishes on a complete and painless recovery.
You'll be happy to know that Clue only suffered minor damage
Thanks again for your concerns , Jenn is feeling better each day, hopefully there is no permanent damage, although when we play clue now, I have a better chance of winning, that will change when she is fully healed!

I'm glad your wife is doing well. You might want to pursue the other driver's insurance for your wife's pain & suffering. It will be a while before she knows if she makes a full & complete recovery. You may want to consult an attorney before signing off on things.
Best wishes for a full speedy recovery for your wife.

The insurance companies are going to do everything they can to get her to say, on a recorded call, anything that might cut them some slack in payments and responsibility. You might consider getting legal advice. See if your insurance will assign you council.
Please trust me on this. Even something like "Yeah, I'm doing better today" can eliminate her chances of getting reimbursed for long-term care. She might need massage or chiropractic therapy frequently or occasionally for the rest of her life if there is any type of nerve or joint damage in her neck. Do not EVER allow them to close any portion of the claim.
I'll add to the get an attorney advise. Having been almost killed in June 2012 I know the drill all too well. You are so shaken and so glad to still be with those you love, that you might just for a bit forget these insurance companies are really good at getting off cheap.
I have to say, as a Coupe owner I'm encouraged to see how well the cabin came through this accident. I'd add a BIG +1 to the recommendations to consult with an attorney prior to speaking to the insurance companies any more. The injuries can be slow to develop and slower to heal.
Most important of all, make sure that your wife is disciplined about sticking to the physical therapy routine. It can make a world of difference. Good luck to both of you and thanks for sharing on the Forum.

OMG...as the kids would say.
I too can attest to the security that a MINI provides its passengers. It is now, in my mind, the best thing about the car. I wouldn't think of owning anything else.
As for a concussion - watch for the warning signs of any problems in the future. Problems can be 6 months to a year later. I am glad your wife came out the crash OK...Hopefully it will stay that way. Also, I don't know how insurance would deal with this sort of thing, but I would do all I could to protect myself financially. Some of the above advice sounds good and maybe something to look into.
All of the things you said about driving safely are all true and can't be impressed upon people strongly enough. Cell phones are the worst thing to come about for safe driving. The only thing we can do about it is be aware and drive defensively.
Best wishes and Hope you enjoy your new MINI.

The accident was on the Southern State parkway in Suffolk Co..
As for the attorneys, yes we've looked into it and we're trying to cover our bases for what might come up later, spine injuries and concussions are not something to be casual about, hope for the best and prepare for the worst!
Also when I talked to the bodyshop about the car they said that the trunk lid and rear quarter panel absorbed the hit , the impact Jenn felt would've been worse if the bumper took the hit!
Looking forward to our new roadster, unfortunately we'll get in the middle of winter, so here's hoping for a mild one!
Steve
Can't wait!

Sorry
Very sorry about Snoopy and I hope your wife will be ok. I fear the same result and I am not even sure how this would have helped all the damage.
But I can say this, once you are in a very bad auto accident it never leaves you. Hitch is Mini Fini in case you are wondering and Super Bumper attached.
