Super Bumper

If you Google Super Bumper or Spare Bumper you will see the videos and yes it is shock absorbing. Well, suppose to be designed for 5 miles per hour hits.

Two very large rubber pieces actually prevent whiplash. If you have just a hitch the crash transfers all the energy to you and the frame.

The website lays it all out. I just feel better with protection. I totaled a Toyota TRD Pickup that was only months old. Not my fault.

They tailgate here something terrible, and you feel so exposed in a Coupe.

This model is really for Pick Up trucks and can tow if I add the ball. But they make one for the 1 1/4 receiver hitch also.

Most bumpers are rated at only 2 1/2 miles an hour. Result? Expensive to fix the cosmetic damage on a Mini.

Someone doesn't want my wife to have a roadster!
Over a month ago we heard that our new roadster was waiting to be shipped, so for the last month we kept getting the " it's on the boat" when we looked on the owners lounge or called Mini !
We finally found out that the ship it was on was damaged in a storm and had to do an emergency docking to get repaired.
They don't think our car was damaged and it's supposed to arrive in New Jersey on 3/6, is anyone else in the New York area waiting for a Mini ?
So we hope to have our new Roadster in a week or so, wish us luck!
Mabey by that time we'll have no more snow!

Steve

Advice: Make sure you check everything on the outside for any imperfections on the sheet metal...look at every angle of your car...you want to make sure your car is not off (hood, trunk, bumpers, wheel well, wheels, windows)

Look underneath the car, engine bay, inside...to make sure everything is up to your satisfaction.

I was thinking the same thing!
Even though our car wasn't listed as damaged, some were,it seems that it was quite a rough ride across the Atlantic! Iceberg perhaps ?!
We'll check the car out and hopefully there won't be any problems, we'll be excited to get the car and it will just be frustrating if there is a disagreement over damage.

After all you've be through I really wish you the best with the new MINI. Talk about bad luck on that one. I'm confident the car will be fine. They're pretty good at securing cars for shipping. It sounds like the ship is what had troubles. Shipping has increased quite a bit over the last decade so it is normal to see occasional delays and problems. It doesn't mean the cargo suffered and just tell yourself the odds are more with you than against you

I can attest to the safety of a MINI. I totaled my MINI after I lost control on a wet road and slid into a tree coming out of a corner and I ended up upside down. I suffered no injuries not even a stiff neck. That's how safe MINIs are. Good to hear your wife's ok.

I'll second that! We hope this one stays upright and unharmed!

Mini4lyf, good to hear that you came out unhurt, sounds like that was quite a crash!

We were told our car came into port in NJ on 3/7, so we're hoping to get a call any day that we can pick it up! It's been 3 mo., can't wait!

Great idea.
We have a long and narrow garage. I lost a lot of space once we got the MINI and could now fit both cars length wise but it's really worth it to keep the MINI in pristine condition!
The only hiccup is that I need to move the cars to get to my tools

I know what you mean, believe it or not, it actually fits, without the ladder, and you can get in and out of the car too!

We work with what we got huh? I guess mine just has a lot more stuff on the walls and I could use more shelves. I also have a wood rack above the garage door, every year it seems that I'm rearranging this for more space. I really need to get rid of my radial arm saw, I just don't use it enough!

On another note, I'm the OP so I guess I can hijack this thread,I see neither of us have found a spare tire solution, and this might seem a it drastic , but I was thinking about moving the muffler over to the passenger side like on a justa, there seems to be room for a donut if not a full size spare under the trunk. You'd basically be adding 4, 90 degree bends, 2 before the muffler and 2 after so that the tailpipe still exits the center. I'm not even sure if there is enough room to do that , then there is the issue of how it would effect the back flow and performance of the engine!
Anyway, just another idea as I remember you being active on the spare tire thread ,

I was going to go fully custom too but I think I'm going to get a trailer hitch receiver to save myself some unnecessary work. I'll mount a custom design tire holder to that directly. I'll design it myself to hold the spare tire so it is nicely done and stays compact. I won't mind the tire being held in the back if it is beautifully executed, classic style you could say. I've even consider making a nice custom cover to put over the spare
Most of those already made system are so big and ugly . We have some bikes too so this would allow me to mount a bike rack as well.

The first step I haven't figure out is what trailer hitch receiver brand stays fully behind the bumper. I'm okay with a plug to a degree but I don't want any square or tubes sticking out the back. On the S I think it would be too much and distracting. I'm a perfectionist. I want the car to stay clean when not in use.

Changing the path of the muffler is an interesting thought but like you I'd be concerned to change the sound which I do like very much as it is. Having bends may also take much room as you state, but you'd have to also make sure it is suspended properly. It's important for the muffler to be suspended and not fixed to the chassis or you'll get terrible vibrations.

Finally got the new Roadster
Unfortunately snow showers and 25-30 degrees tomorrow
I think I'll mount a shotgun on the trunk facing the tailgaters!

Thanks TG and Spiney, I think the color really pops, a big difference from pepper white, which I also liked a lot , just two totally different spectrums(pun intended).
The only thing I would change now that I see the car in person is the wheels, I would've went with black twin spoke, we thought that would be too much black with the darker color when we ordered the car but now I think not. Mabey black winter wheels?
Anyway thanks for your good wishes and we hope this one lasts a long time!

We felt the same when we got the car with those wheels. We should have put an extra few $100 and get a small black wheel upgrade. but I've grown to like them after all. Interestingly they look better from a little distance... None the less do like us, use these for the winter if you happened to be in the northern States and get yourself a decent set of summer wheels and tires

I agree,as one of my old neighbors said ,you got to live with it awhile before you change it, and most of the times it ends up growing on you. So I'm just saying what I'm thinking, not that I'm going to run out and do it, for now we're just going to enjoy the ride!
