New Gear Shift ****

I finally got the carbon fibre gear shift **** installed. I'd tried myself and ran into some problems, so when I was having the dealer install my new gauges I had them install the **** too.

I know the JCW logo is the "old" logo, but I wanted a reference to John Cooper Works before BMW bought them out and had the logo redesigned. I think the old logo is less corporate, less slick than the new logo the car came with and is a nice reference to the "craft" garage of JCW.

The new **** is great: good weight; grip feels good with the leather pad for the fingers and smooth carbon fibre for the palm of the hand. Bought online from ECS

Photos of gauges to follow.

John Cooper Works Gauges

New JCW Gauges

Fortunately Canadian Roadsters don't come with the Open Meter so there's an opportunity to add gauges on both side of the tach. I had ordered them before the car arrived and they were to have been installed before delivery. However the incorrect flange came with them and it took weeks for the correct flange to arrive from Germany. So, the dealer installed them on Friday and I'm really pleased with the look. The gauge face-plates match the tach as does the lighting and number styles.

I've always thought that the lack of a temperature gauge in the MINI has been an oversight, so it's great to have one. I understand that the torque gauge works much like a boost gauge and I'll see how much I use it.

I ordered from the dealer; here are the part numbers and cost ($CDN)

Water Temp Gauge Celsius #62110445458 $84.15
Relative Torque % #62110445459 $84.15
JCW Sport Gauge Install Kit for two gauges #62112149355 $322.58

I'd love a combo gauge that showed boost and temp. I haven't seen one that would match yet.

Have you checked out the offerings from CravenSpeed.com? They have Marshall gauges I believe with the same light color and they seem to blend in pretty well from the in-person ones I've seen. Options.

Looks great and matches the JCW version tach very well.

GP2 Under Tray Installed

Thanks to ECS Tuning and the installation kit they put together for me, I've just installed the GP2 under tray. The instal went well and I really like the smooth results. Here are the before and after photos. Thanks also to Steven (Black Toffee) for his help with this mod.

NM Engineering Torque Arm Insert

While I was under the car (on ramps) installing the GP2 under tray, I also installed the NM Engineering torque arm insert. An easy install and here are the before and after photos.

Roadster in the Polar Vortex

It's certainly been "chilly" in central North America. Here are a couple of photos of our Roadster in the chill.

The Roadster handles well in the snow... yesterday it was a snowplow in over 15cm of snow (6"). Traction control and Michelin Ice X3's work well. Love the heated seats too!

Yes, Looks very good. Try to stay warm and the heated seats do help.

I have Marshall pod gauges for boost and voltage on my R53 JCW. Their backlighting is the exact same light temperature at the R53 factory gauges.

Thanks Steven. The Michelin X-ice 3's are also 215 45 X 17", so a bit wider that the stock 205's... adds to the wider stance.

Yes, these will fling slush along the sides of the car and onto the side view mirrors.

Thanks ECS... above freezing today and the roads are dry, so I was able to "blow out some carbon"

Yes the 215's stanced like that do throw a fair amount of slush…the bottom of my mirrors attest to that on a snowy day. Wouldn't have it any other way though

If only someone would make some factory-quality mudflaps for the JCW body kit... I bought a set of the regular ones and one day I plan to make a wooden form and try to reshape them with a heat gun. If I ever get it done I'll post pics.

Spiney - Did you get the factory rear mudflap for the rear JCW bumper that I posted in you link ? I know the fronts would have to be modified for the JCW side skirts,.

I don't have much trouble with dirt on the rear, my biggest issue is on the sides with the winter wheels that are further out (is that more or less offset, I'm never sure). Once I manage to fit some modified fronts successfully I'll probably get the rears as well.

Sounds good. Just wanted to make sure you knew. If you can modify those fronts to fit, which would be great for the JCW crowd. Make sure you post it up or the how to.
