I'm now convinced it's the MINI yours steering wheel option that killed the the paddle... I'm not going to make a big deal of it. I was a little on the fence in terms of interfering with the steering wheel hand operation anyway. I don't know if it's the case or not. I just wanted to have fun with it...

 

when i ordered mine on 2/25/12 the *** had told me that it would not come with paddle shifters, I didn't press it because I was hoping to add the JCW steering wheel.( still on my list of things to do)
