Has anyone tracked a Roadster?

Hello All!

I scoured old posts, but could not find much info on this, so hopefully someone here may have some input.

I recently swapped my '10 MCS for a '13 S Roadster. Love the car, and it is a ton of fun to drive, but has anyone here tracked their Mini Roadster?

If so, please let me know how it was and how the car performed. The MCS obviously is a special beast that can handle most. But, with the Roadster, I am worried that the tail may become too light when at-speed, and that the spoiler may not produce enough downforce to keep that *** to the ground.

But, yes, I would love to keep going and keep the Mini driving alive. Clearly with the top up!

THANKS!!

I have autocrossed and tracked Trinity. At the track, Trinity did well when compared to her peers. I had no issue or concern with the tail becoming too light. At most tracks you will not get the car above 130 mph. If you are going to track and/or autocross the car, I would recommend a larger, adjustable rear sway bar, suspension tuning and non run flat, max performance tires.

II Kings,

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that the Roadster is getting some seat time.

I first became concerned because I did a canyon run this weekend, and the back felt like it got light in high-speed "s" turns.

I posted because may be heading to Autoclub Speedway soon and the MCS consistently got up past 130 on the "roval" (albeit I did have a beefier sway bar, and JCW sport suspension; this car is stock). So I'm just worried about that bit and turns 8-9, if anyone is familiar with the track.

I will definitely swap out the tires before I make it out there (mistakenly tracked my MCS with run-flats the first time; did not bode well).

Thanks again!

Whats interesting is any time i've leaned her into some sharp curves and you start to sense the back letting go it doesn't really let go... its hard to explain. it almost feels like controllable oversteer in a RWD but.... not really. I think the rear wants to let go, but the car just isn't long enough to really have it break free. This is on the blah all-season runflats, too. I can't wait to get some summer tires.

Zlog, interesting take. Hopefully you are right and the car will stay put. I guess the answer is: take it easy at first until you know how the car will react...and get some good tires!

I'm doing every thing I can to wear out my run-flats (easier sell to wife)..

Once that happens I'll put the Blizzak's that are sitting in my garage on and buy a set of light weight wheels and ultra-performance tires.

Then to find a local autocross and maybe even figure out how to get onto the Lime Rock Park track.....

I don't have the time or money to compete, but it sure would be fun to get out there once in awhile..

Next mod is the competition sway bar. Greasy's Garage in Worcester likes the hollow Hsport.

What do you guys think??

I put a bigger sway bar and the JCW sport suspension on my last Mini (MCS Hardtop). While the suspension really helped keep the car stuck to the ground, the sway bar made a world of difference.

HIGHLY recommended.
