What's in the Catch Can ???
Hi All,
I took the catch can off to check it after about 800 miles or so...here's a look.
As you can see, about a quarter cup of water vapor/oil mix. This would have been fed back into the engine and burned off...messing up the intake port in the process. Pretty happy it's on there

Someone at BMW should buy Steve's R59 pics and put together an awesome commercial spot with them. Add some track footage and then end with the fall morning shot and they would sell a lot of Roadsters. Nice R59

Thank You for the update. Looks like the catch can should have come standard with the turbo's.
Most of that is condensation. Good to keep it out but the thick dark stuff is the true culprit

I'm fairly convinced that doing this catch can is a good investment for my coming-soon Roadster's health.
A couple questions I have:
Does it affect the warranty in any way?
What happens if one forgets to empty semi-regularly?
Also, when emptying - do you just twist it loose or is there a potential for mess? Do you do it during an oil change or whenever?
Also, where did you purchase it from? Is there any concern of compatibility with the 2013 S Roadster (N18 engine, I believe?)

This mod should in no way effect your warranty. However, it's never a bad idea to have a chat with your service advisor, and get a feel from him/her. Mine are very enthusiastic about Mini's, and several from the shop drive/admire modded Mini's...they understand it.
If you forgot about it and ran it full, you would be re-introducing this back into the intake, as if you didn't have it installed.
For emptying, the bottom half unscrews. I take it off the bracket so it's easier to do. I will start checking the contents every 1K or so, to get a baseline on how much I'm collecting. I think I can go farther than that...we'll see.
I purchased from Way Motor Works, great to do business with. He also answers his phone
I would call both WMW and NM and enquire about this mod for the N18. Way never sold me anything that was not necessary, which I appreciate Hope this helps.-Steven

Nope, since my MC Roadster has the naturally aspirated N16 it would need to be a custom install; plus, there doesn't appear to be as much of a documented need for it as with the turbo engines.
I still have the BSH OCC N18 set-up that I pulled out of my '11 MCS, with ~15K miles on it. Already configured for the alarm tab mounting location (pic attached). Still trying to decide if I should sell it or just give it away to a local motoring mate.

The suspension changes are working out great...really loving this set-up. The Roadster is really "planted" and precise. I had a chance yesterday to remove the rear shocks and adjust them to a quarter turn from full soft. I'm liking this set-up much better for the street. I had started them at a quarter past the middle and found that to be a little stiff/abrupt for daily driving. For the fronts, I'm at a half turn from full soft and this is working well. Two things I've found after installing the Yellows, 1) The stock suspension really is not that great(although when I first drove it I thought it not too bad) and 2) The adjustments on the Yellows, a little goes a long way...you will really feel them firm up quickly as you move to the firm settings. My guess would be full firm F/R would great on the track. The Yellows work great with the NM springs
