R58 Front window chip
Front window chip
Got a small one a week ago on my monthly Wisconsin trip. Bummed.
Bought one of the repair kits, it made it better but not perfect. Might be needing a new windshield. Anyone used Safelite?

safelite replaced front glass on our R59 several years back. Zero issues.
Many years back I had front glass in a Honda done by SL and over 60 mph I had a wind whistle. One phone call and they were out next day with all new parts and nothing but 'sorry about that' .... They stand by their warranty.
My insurance sends you straight to SL for glass issues. You can choose to go elsewhere but their default is SL.

Got a rock chip in my new JCW driving it home from the dealer. Well, sure it was an 873 mile drive but still...
Had the car in to Safelite for a repair. The repair was not *cosmetic* but was designed to prevent the chip from developing into a crack.
Fingers crossed it works. (Cost $183!)
One time before with another car, a Porsche Boxster, I let a chip go and after a year or so the chip developed into a windshield wide crack that required the windshield be replaced. Long story short I learned most Porsche dealers farm out their glass work to Safelite (though one or two dealers used an indy glass guy). I contacted Safelite and had the same guy who did the glass work for Porsche (and other similar car brands) replace the glass.
The windshield repair was done and like Capt_bj reported "no issues".

I was hoping the do it yourself repair kit would fill it. Unfortunately it didn't. It still has what looks like two little cracks. In our winter months those become full window cracks and it is in the line of view
I have on my R58, just make sure they get the correct glass as the R58 is not like the r56 and if you have auto wipers or not.
When they repair the window they need to make sure they dont hurt the cowls or the a pillar trims, and they replace that top seal.
A pillars - They tend to damage and break the clips. 51132758797 and 51132758798

This also is required. 51312756196 as its part of the lower cowls.

This is the cowl kit for the R58 and R59, they dont put these back right on that mounting strip.
