R58 Turbo oil supply line replacement labor cost
Turbo oil supply line replacement labor cost
Hello all and thanks to those that respond. I have a '12 JCW and have been told by the dealer that my turbo oil supply line is leaking. There is a minimal amount of oil spotted. I was quoted 2k to replace it. While I know Mini charges prime labor costs, is this a repair that others have had done at a trusted non-Mini shop for considerably less? The technician said the cost is mainly in removing a lot of the front part of the engine to get to it.

You have to remove the turbo/downpipe
heat shield, the downpipe/cat, and a rear
shield to get to it. It’s easier and
quicker to put it into service mode to
get good access. Also, might as well
do the oil filter housing gaskets while
you’re right there anyway.
I can’t imagine more than 4 hours
labor for a slow stealership mechanic
and the supply pipe, downpipe
gasket, exhaust flange, and oil
filter housing gaskets would run less
than $200 for genuine MINI parts.
I’m likely getting this plus front
crank seal plus (maybe oil pan gasket,
too) plus annual inspection done this
week at a moderately expensive
independent shop that specializes in
MINIs and other Northern European
makes this coming week, so I’ll give
an update on it in a few days.
I would do this myself as I’m on
staycation, but I’m currently working
on passing kidney stones.

It is a fair bit of work taking the downpipe off. It's not difficult, just time consuming and tedious. Ditto on the oil filter housing gaskets, you don't want to go back in there for those! If you ever thought about upgrading to a free flow downpipe now is the time. Try getting quotes from non dealers, the stealership should be the last resort. There is an upgraded oil line from vendors on here versus putting back the scrappy stock part also.
My MINI ended up not needing the
turbo oil supply pipe replaced, nor
the front crank seal nor the oil pan
gasket.
Besides the valve cover gasket which
I had already replaced, the rest of
the oil leak was from the front upper
timing guide bolt which had backed
out quite a bit on its own, dripping oil
down to the crank pulley, saturating
and swelling the drive belt, and
generally getting flung around that side
of the engine.

Hey look, it's on sale!

You wanna add the oil cooler seals and if you already have a turbo heat shield you can opt out of that one.
