We all know this feature is nice and distinctive but my car has less than 400 miles and the hatch stamping seems too soft to handle the download of the spoiler in full open position..... no contact with the body panel. Again, the car is new.

It seems there is not enough bracing to support the weight and operating hardware of this feature and there is some stress showing through the hatch body panel. Is it what I have to expect?

Today, I took pictures but both dents are not easy to see because of the light reflexion. Anyway, I will post some pictures when I will have time.

To figure out the problem, stand behind the car and look at both rear tips of the spoiler. The dents are at 10.00 and 2.00 and highly visible on a metallic paint as mine and clearly visible. You will observe the sheet metal on the hatch is slightly bent downwards the size of a half dollar. This is not a body panel stamping issue.

I have just a little over 10K on my Coupe which is a 2013 and no issues. Will take a closer look. Just washed today and when I pull it in the garage I always extend the spoiler to dry it off.

Maybe a fatigue metal failure for speeds over 120 mph? Just kidding

 

I just bought my 2014 Coupe. Is there a way to turn off the spoiler so it stays down all the time? I can see an advantage to keeping it down in freezing rain, etc.

 

If you have the latest software update in your 2014 coupe, you can use the overhead switch to manually put the spoiler in the up position and it will remain up until you manually use the switch to lower the spoiler. If you were to disable the spoiler so it remains in the down position, the computer will force Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) on at speeds above 50 mph. (Thank you Drivehard)
I am sure there is a software patch that will disable the Spoiler as it is done when the optional fixed mounted spoiler is installed.
I have not had any issues with the spoiler at all , including operation in freezing rain or snow.

No not really. You can leave it up all the time no matter what speed but if down it will want to come up at 50. The rear active spoiler is part of the designed aero and necessary downforce built into the car. And what was posted is incorrect. If malfunctioned or disconnected you can still drive over 50 but doc will be forced on. U will get a warning on the dash

Just a FYI. If it were to freeze down it will sense the resistance and stop trying. U can still get home. And on my 2013 last winter ( I have a 2015 r58 now ) in NY it was brutally cold and below freezing a lot and it never Froze to the car
