Just a quick heads up...because it'll probably be for a limited time only but right now the app for iPhones: DashCommand – OBD-II gauge dashboards, scan tool, and vehicle diagnostics is 'on sale' for just $9.99 vs. $49.99 usually.
iTunes: http://appshopper.com/link/dashcommand
Keep in mind it also needs a way to communicate with the OBD II (wired or via Bluetooth)

SECRET to using reliably
Ok, got an ELM and dashcommand and i think I have been lucky to get it to work once or twice, most times says OBDII not found . And when it did work it did not stay connected.
Is there some secret handshake, like start ap then plug in ELM , then go to wifi and choose ELM or vice a versa ? Some settings I'm not getting right ?
I tried both static and DHCP .
Please tell me your procedure or do I have a bad ELM ?

Yes you can use DashCommand to read and clear trouble codes. It might not be able to read some of the BMW/MINI specific codes though, IDK.
Dash Command
I've been using the PLX Kiwi2 (wifi) and dashcommand for a few months with a cravenspeed mount. The system is great and as stated, provides a ton of information that isn't available without something like a scangauge. And I like the fact that it just uses my phone, so I don't have another piece of equipment. Some caveats (even though I really the system):
- the dashcommand software is a little expensive for an app (it was like $50 when I got it)
- you have to load some information about the vehicle into the software to get meaningful output (things like gear ratios, tire circumference, weights, etc. I think I've found all that information, for the R56, so if you need anything, feel free to PM). And I still have never gotten the shift lights to work correctly
- the gauges are definitely for "younger eyes". I can see them fine, but I know some people would complain about things like the boost gauge being too small
- it seems like I have to unplug and re-plug the PLW OBDII cord every time I start the car. Sometimes I can get the app to find it without doing this, but it's not consistent. Has anyone else had this problem?
Cheers
