R58 Anyone take a long road trip in the Coupe?
I have driven from my home in Tampa to Deal's Gap, NC (2x), Atlanta (2x), and Dallas once. My MCS Coupé is on standard suspension with standard cloth seats & HK stereo upgrade. At the time of all of my road trips, I was still on stock wheels & runflats, too. The Coupé actually has a softer ride than my R53's did, and turned out to be a slightly more comfortable vehicle for a long trip.
Obviously, there is less overall storage available than in an R53 with the seats down, but I had a companion on both ATL trips, and everything fit just fine in the boot.
While my companion never bemoaned the lack of reclining room, I could imagine that someone who likes to nap on road trips might be disappointed in the minimal reclining room available in the passenger's seat.
Aside from that, I can't think of any potentially significant drawbacks of the Coupé over the hardtop for a road trip.

I motored from Orlando, Florida to Washington, DC in 13.5 hours with two stops for gas and a 15-minute stop for lunch. I have a JCW Coupe with Sport Suspension and OEM runflat tires. I found the long drive comfortable enough, although my 2004 Cooper is better is two respects: visibility when changing lanes and the steering requires less correcting than the Coupe which has a bit more tendency to wander.
I pretty much drew stares from most passengers in the cars that passed me.

Not terribly long of a road trip, but I've driven from Minneapolis to Dubuque, IA (about 260 miles) and back. The majority is 2-lane highway, with about 50 miles of it being very hilly and twisty. I've driven that route a zillion times in my old 2007 Mazda 3. Driving it in the Coupe was STUPIDLY fun. Comfort wasn't an issue. Or maybe it was, and I was just too distracted while plotting to pass people and seeing how fast I could take the 35 mph curves.
1,100 miles, 8 days, 7 nights, 6 states, 2 people.
My wife said that not only is the coupé more comfortable than my Miata on a long trip (even with the top up on the Miata, the road noise wears after a while), it was a comfortable ride in general. I still have the standard suspension, though it will be getting the JCW suspension eventually. But I don't think a stiffer suspension would have changed her mind.
As for me, I thought it was a great car for a road trip. Period.

Chicago to Nashville, then Nashville-Louisville-Chicago-Des Moines and home for recent MTTS. No issues at all. Loved it and lots of attention for the coupe.

Both of us survived with a modicum of comfort...need to see if non-runflats are less harsh, maybe in the fall if I replace them

I've done my fair share of ~1,000km+ trips in Broadspeed, with sport suspension and runflats. The tires were the deal-breakers for me.
Swapped off the Potenza RE050A RFTs for a set of Pilot Super Sports last week, and the whole attitude of the car has changed: much smoother ride, less road noise, and incredible grip!
I've got a trip to the mountains planned for later this month, which will be around 2,500km total. With the stock runflats, I wouldn't have made it with my sanity; with the Michelins, I'm sure it'll be an easy road trip to make and enjoy!

I do have to say the stock runflats were very harsh, especially with bumps in the roads. MTTS was in the midst of record temps and there were several pavement ridges that had come up. BIG jarring when those were hit!
My original tires were runflats, but they were not at all harsh to drive on. Frankly, based on my previous experience with runflats that felt like driving on 4 round bricks, I ended up checking the sidewall & verifying that the "RFT" stamp was actually there. It was. I must have had a different brand of runflats or something.
I switched away from them for increased performance & lower cost.
Oh, and I'll be motoring from Tampa to Cleveland & back in a few weeks. No reservations.

In June I went from McDade Texas to Vegas, to S. Dakota, Iowa,Nebraska,Kansas, Missouri,Arkansas, Louisana, back to McDade,Tx.
11 days, 4500+ miles No problems on original runflats and runs like a bat outa hell on those long straitways of Interstate hiways. Great transportation and you'll be surprised how much fits in the back.
