R58 New Coupe S with rear rattle clunk-clunk mystery?
It's the plastic pieces from the small window. Just had the dealer pull it apart and put cloth tape. Problem solved. As to the trunk issue tape no work on coupe. It will for about a month. The issue is that the hatch is much ....much heavier than the non coupe. The lock needs to be adjusted with the rubber stops. I was at the dealer for 3 hours today getting that fixed. Had the shop Forman tell me that he has had more coupes in for that issue.
Just letting u all know.

random side note for those w/clunks...
i have a 2013 coupe w/the JCW spoiler and have not had a single rattle from my trunk minus one time. however i found out the rattle was because i had tied down a plastic shovel and not my mini
when i first heard it i was very worried i'd have rattles but nope, just what i had in my boot.

mine still makes the noise.
probably more annoyance than anything.. also makes the car "sound" a lot cheaper than its 40k price tag :(
haven't had a chance to stop by the dealer, just waiting for 10,000 miles service so i can request for that to be fixed.
i guess my laziness is still "louder" than the clunk noise since i been just ignoring via blasting music.

I've found this to (sort of) help:
After adding a piece of tape to the striker, open the hatch, and screw all four bump stops IN, so they're "retracted" as much as possible. Close the hatch, and look through the body gap at the bump stops and their resting points on the body. Note the distances between all four.
Open the hatch again, and twist them all out a little bit, then close the hatch and note the distances again. Continue this until the four bumpers are just barely touching the sheet metal, and I mean *barely*. Each one might be twisted out a different amount, but that's fine. This is where the hatch wants to rest by default.
Now, open the hatch again, and twist each bumper one half rotation. Go for a drive, and see if that stops it. If it doesn't, keep rotating each bumper about a quarter turn, and then keep driving. Eventually, you'll find the right tension on the bumpers to keep the hatch from moving around too much.
It's a pain in the ***, but it works in the end. It took me a few days to get it right, but I'm now driving around in welcome silence.

well, my coupe started making this same noise after i got about 2000 miles on her. gonna try the adjustment first and then possibly take into dealer to look at.
should have known after replying to the thread i'd see it.. hehe.. thanks all for the tips!
UPDATE: well, realized my rattle was caused by having the hatchback cargo net attached to the shelf in the back and in turn it was bouncing off my pelican case i have my Readyset Solar Charger in. random coupe question; can we put Cargo nets in the back like in the Hatchback? i bought and use the 3 net pack from Mini for the R56 but there doesn't seem to be any real place to hook the top of the triange side nets. i'll post a pic and new thread later tonight (and search for prev topics too)

I'm so glad I found this thread... I looked for that rattle FOREVER. Next time it does it, I'll play with the rubber thingies.
Shouldn't have to worry about it, though, since my Roadster is due here next week! WOO HOO!
