Water from hatch?

New guy here, so please be kind if this has already been discussed and I find find in my search. However it rained here last night, and this morning I opened the hatch on my coupe and water poured all in the trunk....

Has anyone else run into this problem? Where is all the water coming from? My guess is the wing area.
I didn't drive my coupe today, so maybe it works it's way out when driving?

It's just one of those "mini" things. Mine dribbles and pours into the back hatch right where the rear hatch lid sits. Water gets down below it and you have to mop it up.

So I opened my hatch yesterday after a good rain and noticed kinda what you mentioned... There are little thin openings on the side of the trunk that lets the water that collects around the spoiler drain from down the channels around the trunk area. I am guessing if you open too quickly it might splash in or just run in.. Next time it rains, I'll open slowly and see what the experience is.

Wet lid pours in when lifted

Ours does the same thing. There are big channels to the sides that catch most of it, but there's definitely some splashing over onto the deck cover and into the boot if I lift the hatch normally... slower means less water all at once and less splashing, but I rarely remember (it's usually raining at the time and I'm not interested in lingering outside the car ).

Water from hatch in trunk?

Only four posts on this thread...
Does EVERYONE have this problem? Or just isolated incidents of it happening?

I opened mine after giving it a wash in order to wipe down the edges of the hatch and the channels and yes, I had some water dribble in. Didn't seem like much of an issue at the time. :dunno

I park facing a bit downhill in my driveway and when it rains a lot of water collects in the side channels. I worry it might leak into the boot area, but nothing so far.

Every wash it does dribble down but then again so did my R53. It's all

part of keeping it clean and dry.

I figure it must be best to clean the channels before the rest of the car and use the door in the front of the cargo area when possible if it is raining.

It happened to me the other day too, but it's only because I opened the rear hatch very quickly. The next time it rains, I'll try opening it slowly.

Hey..had to go dig this up, we were having the same issue and noticed one day after washing the car that the water did not drain out of the pan that the spoiler sits in..there are 2 drains(one on each side) and the drivers side would let the water drain out, but the side didn't and that is the side that the "water" would run into the car from. Took the car to the dealer and they found that the drain tube on that side was kinked and not letting the water drain. Had to order one from Germany and it is now been replaced. No more water running in at large amount.

To check, raise the spoiler and pour a cup of water into the drain areas on both sides and see if it drains out across the bumper.

Gonna' check Andy-Capp tonight when I get home. Same thing happens to him every time it rains or even after a wash job in the driveway. I'll report results.

I experience the the same thing every time the coupe is washed or right after it has rained. I have learned to open the hatch slowly and let it drain out. I occasionally get a few drops in the boot. Also if I let it set without opening the hatch right away it will drain out of the channels within a few minutes. I am not sure if it will be a problem in the long term but no issues now.
It seems to be in the design

Keep Motorin'

Nope, blocked drain not my problem. Water intrusion into the spoiler bay drains out on top of bumper as designed. My issue is the same as Grumpy's and my fix so far is the same too. It's just frustrating to S-L-O-W-L-Y open the hatch while standing in the rain!

We had a hard rain shower this morning, it stopped ~08:30. I went out to Andy-Capp at 10:45 and opened the hatch slower than normal and water still drained from the channel and dripped into the boot. Guess I'll just not use the hatch if there's any chance of trapped water present 'till I can come up with a work-around. The driving fun greatly outweighs this small detail!
