There has been a few threads on these. The reviews were mixed.

As an alternative to one dedicated gauge, you could get an OBDII transmitter to connect to your smartphone & have lots of tools for the same or less cash. I personally own a PLX Kiwi Bluetooth that connects to my Android phone, on which I have loaded an app called "Torque."

There are at least half a dozen OBDII transmitters out there, and a dozen OBDII reader apps. One of the nice features of the Kiwi is that it has a power switch so you can turn it off & not drain the car's battery when not in use.

As for apps, most of them do similar things. Act as code readers, clear codes, fully configurable digital multi-gauge, performance meter, etc. And Torque also has an add-on that will record video via your phone's camera & overlay gauge stats that you specify. So if you want to add a G-force meter to that Dragon/track video, it's done.

Obviously, this depends on you having a mount for your phone that places it in a convenient place to act as a gauge display, and/or record video.

Did you have delays when getting reads with the PLX unit? I had one for about a week on my Iphone and RPM / boost / speed were all delayed. I did like the data logger ability.

There's a fraction of a second delay on some data that changes rapidly, such as RPM's, but it's hardly noticeable. I've used the Kiwi+Droid combo on 3 different phones, and in R50, R58, and a Mazdaspeed3, all with similar performance results.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I saw.

FYI, with MINI connect you can get the water/radiator temp to show up on the navi screen.

I use dash commander, but my concern with the JCW gauge package is it would be blocking the new location for the phone speaker.

There is a round disc about the size of a 50 cent piece where the right gauge sits I don't know how this set up would effect that mic or any tach type gauges mounts.

I have the JCW Temp gauge installed on my Roadster. The factory set-up leaves space for the Bluetooth Mic. I was using the voice commands today, no problems. It works great

Hi John,

I've only had the car for a day and half, but all seems well. I have been on the phone and asked if the reception was clear and understandable. I was told it sounded great.

Normal operating temp for N18 engine?

It is my understanding the normal operating temp for my 2012 "S" Coupe is 105 degrees C/221 F.
Do any of you know something different based on gauges that are out there?
My OEM gauge usually reads 107 C.

220F is about right. I know for the 2013 models sport mode drops it down to 175F-180F. Not sure if that is the case for 2012.

Why does driving in sport mode causes the operating temp. to fall?

I believe that it is a 2 stage thermostat. Or it could be a programmable thermostat.
