JCW Temp Guage

I have a 2010 MCS and was looking into whether the JCW temp guage was worth it or not. At this point I wanted something stock, but does anyone have pics of this installed? Does the guage actually light up with the other instruments? And can the install be done myself instead of the crazy dealer labor charge?

Thanks in advance!

You can do the install yourself. Instructions from Morristown Mini.

I was going to perhaps get the temp guage installed next week.
I'd love to hear impressions from those who have it.

That's a good look. I could be wrong, but I think that if you only want one guage it will be mounted on the right side of the steering wheel? Does anybody know if that's true? I think that's kind of strange because it blocks the air vent and it makes things look a bit clutter (IMO) towards the center of the dash.

Looks like it, judging by the parts listed in the installation instructions.
Probably makes more sense in the UK.

That would be a logical explanation. Surely though they could come out with a mount that can go on either side or order it for LHD or RHD

Went up to phoenix to get my gauges installed last Thursday (decided to go with 2, torque and temp, as it didn't raise the price all that much -- as a percentage, anyway). Still driving the loaner.

They told me Thursday afternoon that the install was hard on the technician (rather tight under the dash), and was taking longer than they thought. I had to be back in Tucson on Friday, so the plan was to drive back up Saturday to get my car. Got a call Friday afternoon saying it was all done... except the gauges wouldn't power on. Said it was a faulty part that they plug into and it would be repaired under warranty, but they would have to order the part in for Monday (yesterday). Gonna call for an update in a bit (haven't heard anything since Friday) but I'm working all this week, and can't make it back up to Phoenix until this coming Saturday.

1 hour install? HA!

My temperature gauge is also in degree celsius just like your's, which make sense since I am in Canada. But I am surprised they don't have or just didn't give you one in farenheit!

I don't mind.
If you'll notice, I keep the outside temperature indicator in degrees C as well. And 36+ degrees at that hour of night is pretty far from Canada. =)

Got up over 42 that day, if I remember correctly.
And, yeah, I've been pleasantly surprised with the gauges. A little hard to read in the day with the black surface and reflections on the glass, but at night they fit right in.

I wonder if these pods from 3D Design would hold the JCW gauges.

Hi, does anyone know if the temp gauge and relative torque gauges match in color? Earlier forums report one being grey and the other black. Also, which is more useful, lateral g-force or relative torque? My kids would love the g-force so I might get that to wow them, unless the relative torque is useful. I read what it measures, but how does it help driver?

Yes colors both match

I installed relative torque and water temp gauge. Temp gauge has obvious value but I scratched my head on other option. Relative torque gauge kind of reminds me of a vacuum gauge. Very proportional to foot pressure too, so I'm not sure I'm learning much. Would have far preferred oil temp or pressure if they had that. Since this one doesn't have obvious value, if you want the g fun/novelty, sure get that. You can alternate which side either is on too; just need to run the proper wire lead to the particular gauge.

Thanks for the info. Do your gauges have the same color faces? I heard the temp gauge is black and the torque and g-force are grey. I'm hoping they are all grey like tach and speedo will be on my 2011 jcw on order. Thanks

No and yes.

The gauge face (and case) is basically black. Both are identical for face color. Meanwhile while the tach face on my 2010 S coupe is the very light silver grey. But because of the black case around the tach and the black of the whole dashboard area near the gauges it all works color wise. I remember wondering as you are why it was different before I installed it, but yes I think it all ties together and gives a factory clean look. At night with the background lighting, they all have the similar Mini/BMW orange type glow (per the pictures in the earlier post), so fit together quite well.

One gripe with the gauges that I have is that it's often very difficult to see the needle in the daylight.
I've been meaning to grab a daytime picture since your question on the 30th (so you can see the colors and such); just haven't had time.

At night, though, they look great and perfectly match with the rest of the displays.

A daytime photo would be VERY helpful-- I've been scouring the net looking for a good one with the temp gauge (they're all of the other two gauges). My new JCW will have a dark grey speedo and tach (new this year). I hope they're not hard to read in the daytime!
