R57 Paddle shifter Issues
Paddle shifter Issues
To the collective,
Presently own an R57S (2012) and have been having clearing various issues which justified the low purchase price.
I have managed to dispose of the majority and i am left with some FRM issues.
I did get the FRM letter from MINI but the dealer put the damper on a replacement, stating "this is only an advisory, not a recall". So I left my appointment without the promised work.,
Over the winter I will pull the FRM and send out for diagnosis, reflash and / or replace, but....
The trouble is I am not able to get the paddle shifters to operate. I had a 2010 R55 6-speed before but this is first Automatic. So question is how do I get them to function?
I tried in Auto mode, Manual mode, single paddle shift with left or right, both paddles and both finger pull in and thumb push. No joy in any combo.
So assuming FRM has no effect on Paddles, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Dan in NJ

Maybe,
Thanks for the reply Have a history of OBD fault issues that I review but have never had anything paddle related or Steering angle related.
Last two OBD fault checks (September and October 2025) both have no codes but do now have a Trans code of 523A. Never had this before. This is supposed to be uncontrolled shifting of the trans between auto and manual. This has never been observed when driving. I have on occasion when pushing to Park pushed into the Manual mode instead but went right back to Auto mode and into Park without issue.
Other FRM faults continue to be A8BA (Active Tail light Defect), A8B8 (Center light defect although a new unit is installed but has never worked) , 9CBB (Active Short Circuit) plus others referencing the same lights.
Hope this helps.
