R57 Convertible Top Side Bracing
Convertible Top Side Bracing
Noticed as I was wrapping up the vinyl window install [https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4695601] that the plastic bracing on the driver's side is coming apart.
See this part at ECS: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...p/54347276922/
On the install of these, does the top need to be operated to get this done? I ask because with my FRM being intermittently in a fail state, I'm currently unable to lower the top [nor the door windows].
Can these braces be installed with the top up & latched? I noticed them being damaged when having the tailgate down & propping the rear of the top up with the kickstands. Does this give enough slack/access to fix these without having access to move the full top?

Hello, Here is all info to do it. Looks like top down. But you might be able to pull it out and get behind with top up?

I read the mini2 thread & the one on here, but not a lot of photo documentation of the process.
Luckily, mine doesn't seem to be leaking when it rains, so it's not urgent.
I hosed it down pretty heavily after finishing the window replacement and no leaks that I could see.
Not really looking forward to the $4-500 for a new FRM, plus an hour labor [local indy shop] to program. Will be nice to have full functionality again, though.
That last link to the workshop manual is much more insightful. I'll have to take a look at it & see how accessible it is with the top up.

Thanks ECS, that last link was very helpful. Now to determine if I can get it done with the car in its current state.
Still holding the tiny hope of getting included in the FRM recall & save myself a fair bit of $$$
