Hi,

I recently installed a MMI Carplay device (RoadTop) in my 2012 R57 Mini, and I'd like to add a rear view camera.
As part of the installation, I need to tap into the reverse lamp 12V+ wire, as well as the ground.

My reverse light lamp assembly includes a fog light, and the connector has 3 wires:
- I assume that brown is the ground, and the green and blue wires are the 12V+ for the reverse lamps and for the fog light (I haven't checked with a multimeter which one is the reverse yet).



I removed the back trim of the trunk, as I wanted to find the reverse light 12V+ wire, but I can't find any green or blue wires there.



Has anybody installed a rear view camera on the R57?
How can I identify the 12V+ reverse light wire inside the trunk?

I don't think you'll find it in the tailgate. Have you tried looking near the brake lights on the left or right side?

 

My reverse lights are on the rear bumper, so an option was to tap on the wires close to the rear light assembly (on the bumper).

I ended up getting the power directly from the MMI unit (RoadTop Carplay) and it's working great.

I know it’s a couple of years gone by. I have a 2011 and was thinking of getting the RoadTop. But I see mixed reviews. How do you like yours? Does the wireless CarPlay work properly?
and which backup camera did you end up getting?
