Can't seem to find too much information on a good place to buy and how to go about replacing it DIY styles. Did a search on this site and on the internet. Not much popped back. $204 at minimania is a no go for me. LOL!
I have the same make and model and attempting to remove the 3rd brake light from the connector, any ideas on how to "unplug" it from the LED light assembly? How to dis-connect the connector from the assembly?
Hello, just came across this, did you ever get it unpluged, should just unclip, might need a little flat head on the side as the clip tab looks broken.

I'm in the same boat. The brake light assembly was easy enough to remove from the car, but I cannot detach the cable for the life of me. It's one of the most frustrating things I've ever come across. Why must Minis be so frustrating to work on. What should be an easy task is made 10 times harder by design, I guess. Would be nice if there was a pic a complete plug with the tab that you mentioned was broken off from the pic above. I'm tempted to just crack the assembly to remove the plug. The light's not working anyway.
First, thanks for the quick reply. I was able to remove the plug, but I had to use a pick tool to do so. I don't know if the plug will still work for a new light assembly, so I'm hoping that you might be able to help me locate another.
This car is a 2014, but only has 24K miles on it. I don't know how long the LED light assemblies are supposed to last, but maybe it was just time for this one to go. I'd like to test the wiring for power before ordering a new assembly, but the holes in the plug are so small. I'm trying to rig something up for that now. I think I have the model for the assembly itself (89078393 ?), but I don't know about the plug (if there's a part number for that. At any rate, here are the pics:
I'll see if I can put it under a magnifying glass to see if there's anything imprinted on there. If there is, I'll see if I can get a pic OR a model number. Thanks!
No worries - I put the order in for the light assembly. It looks like the plug might take a while to arrive. Maybe the current plug will work until I get the other plug in.
Yep, glad to help. Trying to find that plug in our data but looks likes its not in their.
Just wanted to follow up. The brake light arrived on Saturday and I installed it within a few minutes. The old plug works just fine and so does the light - back in business. Thanks.
I've got the same problem with my R57 base convertible.
Light bar needs replacing and a new plug needed. I tried to resurrect the old one a few years back when the plug was froze on the terminals. Now it's time to do it again....hopefully the plug is available now? It's a 4 prong staggered wire plug. I'm also looking for the wiring diagram to install the new plug. Can't find a color coded diagram in the manual.
The light part number is - 63247255925 ....any idea of the part number of the plug and can you order one for me (ECStuning)?
For users that had similar issue(or will have) to unplug the third stop lamp(54342758124). Need to push down a small flat screwdriver into the slot(see the arrow on the picture) and gently try to pull connector(2pin plug) out with the screwdriver(this will release the handler/hook - see circled area on the pircture). When you are pulling connector(2pin plug) out with a screwdriver try to pull(at the same time)cables gently too. This should release the connector. Do not rush. In my case it took a some time to release the plug.
