Auto-Up Windows??

I have tried to do a number of searches and I do not have a conclusive answer.

Can I have the dealer program all of the windows to auto-up, the same as they go down automatically (this is available in BMW's)

Thanks, the car is a 2010 R57

Hi e46jb, this thread has some good information on alternatives to getting the auto up features.

That looks like a great controller, but I am not concerned about the roof going up or down automatically...just the windows.

So for $350 plus a bit of time for install, I can see the Smart TOP being a very expensive option to achieve what I am looking for.

You should have auto up windows standard in a 2nd gen.

OK, if it is standard to have the windows go up automatically with one touch, is there a way I can reset it? Or do I have to take it to the dealer for a reflash?

Thanks,

Are you sure? This seems to be a mystery around here. I have a 2011 convertible and my windows don't do auto-up. I'm starting to think that that is an option that comes with one of the packages that I didn't get.

If it is standard, how do I fix it? On another thread someone mentioned possibly reprogramming the windows but I wasn't able to find any specific instructions on how to do that.

You have to be sure to just tap the toggle switch up. If you hold it, it will switch into manual mode.

I have tried a number of different 'reset' options with no luck.

Also, I know the method required to have the windows go down automatically and up automatically. I have owned 5 BMW's and all have the auto up AND down function.

Am I missing something as well....can I use the rear window lever to make all windows go up automatically? Or is it programmable for each of the 3 window switches?

Yeah, I know that. It still doesn't do auto up.

I'd probably get in touch with the dealer and arrange for service then. At least for my 2008, it was not part of any packages as I don't have any.

If the engine is running AND a door is open then the one touch auto up is disabled, otherwise it should work.

If the OP is asking, if he can get out an press the lock on the fob and have all the windows close automatically then no it can't be done without a 3rd party device.

Note that windows can all be closed by turning the metal key in the door.

What I am looking for is a way to program the windows to go up at one touch while driving.

Having to hold the switch while driving is awkward and unsafe.

If yours are not doing that, then I would suggest contacting the dealer to have it looked at.

I've never seen a Mini with an auto-up feature. This seems interesting, I don't like having to shift and roll up my windows at the same time as I'm getting on the freeway. It's not a HUGE inconvenience, but it does get annoying. I'm going to call my dealer and get it figured out.

I thought I read somewhere that 2008 and up all had standard auto-up windows. Hmmm.

I really wish we would be able to get a definitive answer here. I don't trust my dealer to have the correct info and I have a feeling that if I tell him my auto-up isn't working, he might just tell me that's the way it's supposed to be so they don't have to deal with it even if it's wrong. I know, call me cynical but I don't trust dealers and service advisors to have the correct information on a lot of things like this.

I checked on the MINIUSA web site. According to the info there, for Cooper hardtops and Cooper Clubmans, auto up and auto down are standard features. However, for convertibles, only auto down is listed as a standard feature.

Very hazy, but I seem to recall reading a while back some reason why 'verts cannot have auto up - seems like it was some safety issue.

That's my recollection as well -- not being able to sense when something (like your neck) was stuck in the window.

There is a toggle that if you hold it long enough will raise both back windows (pause) and then both front windows. Not the same I know but handy.

I think that the safety feature for auto-up does not work for the 'vert. There is a great variation in force needed to raise the front window depending on whether the rear windows are up or down.

This is the reason auto-up is not offered in the 'vert.

I know that if I hold the rear window switch, it will first roll up the rear windows, then a brief pause and the front windows will go up.

I am really hoping that in an R57 the auto-up is something that can be programmed by the dealer. Otherwise it will just become a bit of an inconvenience to sit and hold a switch for 20 seconds.

PS - have appointment with dealer for late next week regarding this and a few other issues. Will give update on availability for pre-LCI cabrio's

There is no auto up feature for the cabrio or at least the 2011 which i have. It seems to be a safety issue. I have checked everywhere.

That really sucks. I will still try to get a confirmation from the dealer when I am there next week.

I'm not aware that mine are auto-up. I tried to auto-up the driver's window and it just stopped when I released the switch.

Just auto-down (either front windows separately), or the "all-4" toggle (second from left) which puts all 4 windows down together with just one touch of the switch.
