on my second day with new 11 and there is a rattle with the top up. I think its coming from the top corners of the rear windows where they sit in the top. If i roll down the rear windows a tad it seems to go away. I notices somewhere else on this forum that there is a technical service bulletin from 2009 that might address this issue but i dont know if it would apply to an 11. Has anyone else had this same issue?

 

What I do with things like this is have my wife drive while I am in the back seat. That way I can listen and touch and press on things to see if I can find and stop the problem. Other than that I hope your dealer is close.

 

That is the same thing i do but this time i put my son in the back. Thats how we figured out the window tuuching the top was wrere the problem was. I just got rid of a 06 mustang gt vert that rattled and shuterd when you would hit a bump. So if we roll down the windows about a 1/3 of an inch the mini is rattle free. What does every one use to clean there colth top? Thanks for everyones help iam new to the mini

 

I have a black top and though I am **** about many things the top is not one of them. If I wash the MINI myself I use any good car wash soap, but usually I go through a high-pressure no-touch car wash. Mine is 27 months old and looks fine.

 

To OP - this is normal behavior. There are two aspects to this. One there is a TSB about rattle in the top itself. I'd have your dealer check to see if that's done. It involves some felt, regreasing and other process-related work. The other, is what sounds like a rattle but is actually the gasket of the roof (that would have otherwise been body of the car door) squeaking against the top of the glass. DO NOT have your dealer fix that. Their fix is to put silicone on the rubber which stops it for about a week at most. A lot have said that the real fix is to use something like rubbing alcohol to remove all silicon and allow the glass to "stick" (so to speak) to the rubber gasket. I haven't tried that yet, but four months later, it doesn't really bother me any more. I drive a ton with the top down.
