remote 'top open' convenience mode

got a question, has anyone used your remote to open the roof and open the door at the same time to get into the car? you know, you are walking to your car, hit your remote button, the roof starts to open and you are already standing at your car waiting for it to finish opening. Or can you open the door while the roof is in motion?

If you open the doors, the top operation stops. Then you have to put your key in the ignition to complete the process...it's a pain.

I usually put the key to my chin to get better distance. By the time I get to Butters, the top is all the way down in the driving position

**Oops, I misread, Butters doesn't have Convenience mode.

If I am approaching my MINI from the front I will sometimes hold my fob in the air to open the top. But it doesn't have much range and I am usually to the car before the sunroof portion fully opens. And no, you can't open the door without stopping the operation.

I wish it had more range, since with the limited range, it is almost not worth doing...except on very hot days when you want to drop the top before getting in. There has been some discussion on this range issue but so far no solution.

Not sure why mine works but if i am using my remote to open the top and i open the door, it continues to work. I then sit in the car while still holding the remote button until top is completely down and THEN i put the key in and off i go....

I have convenience package - not sure if that's why....and it's a jcw.

Same here. I can begin to open the roof with my FOB or by placing the key into the door and holding it in the open position and open the actual door.

Guess they made a chance from the 1st Gen to the 2nd Gen Convertibles.

I find using the FOB is hit or miss as the signal cannot be interrupted during the open operationg. I fit is interrupted, it stops, until I press and hold the button again. I like to use the key in the door handle instead.

there is a nice little add-on for our Mini convertible key for remote:

It's "one-touch" + more extras...

I've bought mine smarttop from these guys:

hope this helps...
