There is supposed to be with the NAV. I don't know whether it comes without the NAV, or not. Mine doesn't work either, but I'm going to wait until the dealer has had more experience with it, and I have to take it in for something else. Closest service is 87 miles away.

My SA told me this as well. He had put in a a "puma" case and that Mini hadn't gotten back to them. This was late on a Friday, and I wanted the car back for the weekend, so we delayed it until the following week.

I had private messaged a fellow NAMer and went specifically to the dealer that this individual went to to get their VC fixed. I thought, "Oh, this dealer have had experience with this so it should be an easy fix for them. I'll be out of there and speaking to Cortana in 2 hours." No such luck.

Yes it was at Princeton Mini that I took my car in for the update. The service manager for mini is a good guy I think he will help you out.

Let me know how it goes. By the way I have been trying to get a hold of other mini drivers that would want to go motoring. Today was a great day for that.
Let me know what the guys at mini say.

Thanks for the info and I will let you know how it goes. They gave me my old Mini as a loaner .

There are a bunch of us that meet every other Thursday at Nutt's on Rt. 29 in Titusville (Washingtons Crossing). Our next gathering is May 31st. around 6:00 pm. We meet for dinner and ice cream. Great group of people.

Picked up my baby today and she can now "speak". More convenient than I thought! However, took 5 days for a software download????? Unacceptable.

I talked to them about it, but am waiting for them to have more experience under their belts. I spoke to Ben about it when I picked up the car on May 12. At that time, BMW had not informed the MA's that the NAV even had voice recognition. Ben had been asking for training on the NAV, but it had not been made available to him. Anyway, he talked to a tech who seemed to know about the upgrade and know about the special codes needed. However, he hadn't performed any updates at that time.

If your car becomes their learning platform, let me know how it goes.

Before the holiday weekend, the SA called me to let me know that he hadn't forgotten about me, but that he had not heard anything new with the puma case. Seems really strange that some people's VC is working, some people are getting updates to get it working, and even if I go to a dealer/service center that has verifiably fixed someone else's problem, but is unable to turn it around on mine.

I guess I just want a little more transparancy into this system...

You are waiting too long- -I would squawk. I took delivery on 5/10, didn't take it in for voice assist until 5/21 after work, picked it up late afternoon on 5/25 and felt that was too long. Perhaps you need to speak with the sales manager and service manager and not waste time with your SA. Every Mini dealer has a "quick fix guy" in service that is at a higher level than the techs and I would also ask about that. JMHO

I'm going in 5/29 for a service appt and now I fear the worst. VC button has never worked on my one-month old car with bluetooth and navigation.

Bluetooth worked (sort of) for a while. It paired up with my motorolo e815, but every five minutes it would "un-pair" and "re-pair", thus dropping my call.

YES!!!! THANK YOU! Someone else has acknowledged this problem as well. I have been getting this with my cooper since I got it. I am constantly having no pair, or a 5 minute pair. It's really annoying. Not to get off topic, but let me know if the update to get your VC working also improves this bluetooth issue.

I've seen a few threads on the Nav Forum talking about bluetooth and everyone has replied "works for me".

No quick fix for me

My Mini was the first 2007 with Nav at my dealer (picked up 5/15), and testing the voice control was clearly not part of the predelivery inspection. Completely non-functional (no response to the button). I took it in the shop, they kept it a few days to open a 'Puma case' and said a factory rep was flying out to look at it--meanwhile, more Minis with Nav have arrived, but it sounds like this dealer is testing for voice now, and all are failing. I don't think they are delivering these cars pending factory advice; except mine, since I already took delivery. They are expecting a 'CD' sometime this week and if it fixes their cars, they'll have me bring mine back in (again) for the 'fix'. A pain, but at least my dealer is 'only' 40 miles or so.

I find it interesting how much faster word of this defect spread here than it did in the Mini dealer network. All the dealers should have added this to their predelivery inspection by now, it's so simple to test. Here's hoping they have.

I took delivery of mine May 26th, and the VR isn't working as well.

I'll call the dealer and see if they know how to fix it.

Well, MINI service advisor tells me that a "special part" arrived via FedEx y and that after an overnight software load, my car will will work correctly.

If the voice recognition AND the bluetooth both work, I'll be very pleased. Hopefully, my car will stop the cyclic "un-pairing" from my phone.

working yet?

So does anyone have working voice recognition yet? My MA was supposed to be checking on it, but I haven't heard from him since Friday.

Voice recognition fixed with a new "MULF" unit (I'm not making this up). Also, I'm glad to report that my car's bluetooth unit no longer cycles on/off every five minutes. The part came in one day and the reprogam took a few hours.

Any idea what a MULF unit is? Maybe a part number on the invoice?

Thanks

I brought my mini in to get the firmware update to fix the voice recognition. They had the vehicle for 5 hours or so, then I got the call that they don't have the right part/firmware. Sigh. So parts department has already order the part and now once again we play the waiting game.

Uter, Glad to hear the bluetooth is more reliable. I'm hoping my Motorola Q will be as reliable, though the last few days, it's been pretty spot on.

Thanks for the updates......my dealer (Dallas) is still trying to find out why it's not working. Thankfully, they're using Mini's on the lot and not mine.

Re Bluetooth...I had just purchased an LG phone bf I got the MINI and it didn't work with the MINI. I exchanged it for a Motorola Razr (based on information from MINIUSA) and it works GREAT!. I like the phone much better, too.

Please keep us posted if anyone else get's their VR working....

Here are some notes from my invoice for the voice command repair:

MULF
84-10-9-141-048

Part replaced after old module would not ID. The new module was reprogramed and voice recognition and bluetooth worked.
