I'm curious...how hard was it for you to go with Oxygen Blue? Why...or how...did you select OB over any other MINI colors??? Was that an easy choice or difficult?

I was driving by the dealership yesterday and once again there are no OBs on the lot (in fact, there were only about eight MINIs, period), and there haven't been any OBs for some time. My suspicion is that not many folks are brave enough to order a color they are unfamilar with and that they have never seen in person. It is a big leap of faith, especially since OB is unique in that it does not appear on any other MINI model than the Cooper coupe. It seems a cycle that is destined to keep Oxygen Blue MINIs quite rare.

So what did you go through in regards to this and how tough a choice was it?

It was easy. I let my husband pick the color for me. I configured everything on the car for me. It was going to be my car. He's a bad driver so I told him he wasn't going to get to drive it, but he could pick the color. He chose OB.

I worried about wether I would like it. But I can tell you I am 100% sure now that I've have it in my hands. I LOVE THE COLOR!!!!!! Its so unique. Its mine. I almost got the chili red, but so glad I didn't. They are a dime a dozen. OB is so unique. Get it. you won't regret if you want something unique.

Well, I don't have mine yet, so I can't say for sure that anything I write tonight will be valid once I do. But I can say from looking at many of the pictures on the various color 'support groups', that this color really yanked my crank. I liked that it was unique, kind of a retro color (my girlfriend thinks it looks like the old Nash Metropolitans), non-metallic, and just easy on the eyes. When I ordered mine, the dealer had a sample of the color and I was certainly not taken aback. The pics I've seen of the color only inspire me more; I'm not crazy about all the dark cars on the road so I'm looking forward to having one that's not color-flashy, but classy-flashy. It's going to be a long wait for me (September), so I'm certainly hoping I'm not disappointed, but on the contrary, I suspect it'll have me fliping cartwheels--I can't wait!

I got my OB/W last May, and while the choice wasn't difficult, I'd be lying if I said I didn't agonize over it a bit.

Of course, I had never seen an OB MINI when I ordered in mid-April '07, except maybe a pic or two on MINI2. The paint sample at the dealership was hard for me to judge by. That was the source of the agony...it was hard to get a good read on what it looked like "in the paint." The very first OB MINI I saw was my own the night before I took delivery (an MA snuck me in the back after hours for a peek).

As far as the initial choice though....it was destiny. OB is very similar to my all-time favorite classic Mini color. Add to that the fact that I whined for over a year because Electric Blue was not made available on Coopers in the U.S. as it was in the UK, Canada, and elsewhere. Now combine these....not only was Oxygen Blue (similar to Electric Blue) now being offered as a Cooper-only color, but it was also non-metallic as the classic color was. I never considered anything else really.

So Fuso...did hubby see an OB at the showroom, or did he go from solely the paint sample or configurator?

Most of the cars I have owned have been red. Not that it's my favorite color but I generally do not like metallic paints. Usually the choice was black, red or white and I usually went with red.

Now with the cooper there is a choice of 4 solid colors, all of them quite nice. The 1st time I went to the MINI dealer there was an O2 blue on the showroom floor. I just fell in love with that color and had to have it. I'm not saying I hate all the other color choices, in fact I like showing up for a ride and seeing all of the variety of color options (any color looks great on a mini) I just love this shade of solid blue.

Like any mini owner I am constantly thinking of what color I would like next. I'm hoping some day they offer the solid non metallic black again and I really love mellow yellow too.

We took our test drive 1 week after the Portland Auto Show and on the dealers lot there was an O2 Blue Mini in the garage waiting on its new owner's to take him/her home. We both went down the line of the other cars there and did a double take at the O2...we both went WOW!! The rest is history, we ordered Molly on MY 45th Birthday...8 LONG WEEKS later we took delivery...I can't tell you how much I LOVE this little car!!

He tells me he saw it on the lot. I actually don't even remember seeing it at the dealer on an actual car or on an actual sample. I went with my gut and trusted him. I googled the color several times because I was really worried that I had made a mistake by letting him choose the color. I have yet to see an OB on the road.

But as usual my husband was right. (this is the second time he's made the right choice for me. the first was a lime green Eagle Summit).

I love the color.

I'm a UNC graduate and love light blue! I've always liked the Electric Blue MINI color, too. The OB is a little darker, retro ... even elegant, I'd say. I also like the fact that it's an unusual/rare color.

new o2 photos in c2burgess gallery

For those who always like to see more oxyblue MC photos - several pics from a recent O2 tour of Nashville are in the c2burgess gallery. Maybe you'd like to post some photos of your O2 at sites in your city/state?

Choosing the color was anguish, knashing of teeth, and gouging of eye.
I went from yellow, to Oxy Blue, to green, to nightfire red, then back to my fav: Oxy Blue.

I could not get over the idea of getting a color I have not seen.

Then I found this site and forum, and that sent me to the phone to my MA to change to OB/Wht - as it turned out - 1 day before it went into production (I was sitting at nightfire red/blk for two weeks). I am soooo glaaad I made the change!

I also noted that there were alot of red MINIs in my area, and I am a contrarian (Ron Paul anyone?!?) so OB appealed to me in that way too.

I should have Oscar by 7/15 - the wait is killing me!

I saw the virtual chip on Mini's site, and immediately knew it was the color for me. No second guessing. I was in love..

CHOOSING THE COLOR IS KILLING ME!!! I am going to order my mini cooper on Monday and I and going to go with the Oxygen Blue. It was my first love...but then I thought, maybe green or sparkling silver or pepper white. I am 51 so I thought maybe I would go with a nice sedate combination...forget about it! I love oxygen blue. I've never even seen one around where I live. I agree with you Ed, it is so hard to order a color you haven't seen up close and personal.
I still can't decide about the roof color. Does the sun roof look okay in a white roof?

I have seen quite a few with the white roof and I really like it. Sometimes I wish I got the white roof as I am sure it is much easier to maintain than a black roof. Another bonus is hood stripes in white I would think would be much easier to keep clean (if you go that route). I am finding the black hood stripes are a pain. If you search this thread somewhat you will see some pics with white roof/sunroof and it looks great.

I think the sunroof looks fine in a white roof. There are some pics in my gallery that might help you decide.

That's exactly why I chose Oxygen Blue, it was so unique and reminded me of a retro color. I've had lots of people tell me how much they like the color, that's the first thing they mention.

I'm partial to all O2 Blue, but I too agree that a white roof with a sunroof is nice.

I've given thought to white stripes on mine, Viper style, that being two centered wide stripes with a small gap in between, running the full length of the vehicle. With a white roof you could invert the stripe color, blue stripes on the roof.

My other consideration for stripes would be 60's surfboard style, one medium wide stripe and an outboard thinner stripe running close beside, both stripes offset to the driver's side, and running the full length. Mmmm..

I just re-read my previous post on the surfboard stripes, and thought of a name for it.. the "Mini-Gun".

Ditto on the white!

I used to have a navy blue car. hated how it showed all the dirt all the time.

The lighter OB and white roof don't show the dirt as much as black.

However, my husband would have picked black. He doesn't care about the upkeep.

I love, love, love the OB with white!

I have the white roof and love it! Also have the sunroof, and it looks just fine. Have the white bonnet stripes, too, and added boot stripes to match. SOOOO glad I did that. Check out my gallery if you want to see what the combo looks like.

Good luck!

The choice of OB wasn't that tricky. Initially we wanted the cheapest MINI we could get (that soon changed!!). So it was a solid colour - really between Pepper White and OB. As luck would have it there was an OB MINI in the showroom (sold) when we first went.

I've been thinking recently about what I would do if I had to order another MINI and I really wouldn't change a single thing. If I were to actually order another MINI, it would be very difficult choosing another color - all the others seem so...well....sensible. Somebody described our current MINI as reminding them of the beach - and I know what they mean I think.
