The OB/W at my dealership is still for sale, they place it right up front because dull people would miss it otherwise. I still get a celebrity reception when I pull into the parking lot driving the only OB in Arlington!!
Well, I think you will still have the only OB in Arlington, gokart. I presume "visiting" Estella's in an OB which will have WA plates once the road trip is over doesn't count
Still don't have an exact pick-up date from Dallas, but she is in their inventory as....MINE.
My students went home at noon Friday all bawling and hugging. 8th graders move on to HS and they get so attached to each other. I came home and crashed on the couch.
Jedorme, thanks for the Charleston eat tips. So noted
Today with more energy I'm getting out the maps to fit in...........THE DRAGON!

No, that would be most welcome.....it'll give the locals a thrill!!!
It's Delivery Time!
Well, the good news is that our MA called today to tell us that our OB/OB MC is coming out of the VDC this week and our car will be at the dealer in Las Vegas on Thursday, July 28th! That's about a month earlier than first predicted, and after tracking the Maersk Wind (the ship that brought her from England), even earlier than I predicted.
Now the bad news, my wife (and I have to admit that I bought the car for her but it really is my dream car) has picked out her personal license plates. They are "NOT HIS". My first reaction was, Oh No, but I guess you have to take the good with the bad, and at least I am going to get to drive the car when she doesn't - of course it may be in the middle of the night, but hey there will be less traffic. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but like George Carlin says, the glass isn't half empty or half full - it's just too big.

Jedorme, hahoo
I spoke with my MA in Dallas this morning, and Sky Blue is STILL in Charleston. She assured me that she expected her to be ready for the Southeastern leg of my road trip by 3 July.
My back up plan is to borrow my parents Mercury Grand Marquis. I will be grateful if I drive Marky Mark. But, my heart sings for Sky Blue.
Regardless of delivery time in Dallas (of which I have no control), I know Sky Blue will be ready for my trip back to Puget Sound, WA in early August.
I have a blog prepared for my journey. I had originally planned to go through Las Vegas and cut up through Utah. But, now I think I may want to go up 101 to revisit the days I first found the Pacific Northwest. But, how cool would it be to go through Vegas
Maybe we can hook up there? I feel such a sense of freedom.
Yep, gokart, we will meet at Estella's. Probably on the return leg of my MINI USA Road Trip Adventure. The front leg is might compressed.

Sky Blue, Where Are You Going?
Hello Sky Blue, Do you know when you will get your car in Dallas? We are in Oregon right now (we travel in an RV all summer and are spending the summer in Oregon) and will rent a car out of Eugene to drive to Las Vegas (Ugh!!!) to pick up our car next week. We leave here on 6/30, arrive in Vegas on 7/2 and probably leave there about 7/5, getting back to Oregon on 7/8. We are in Florence right now. But on 7/20 we leave to spend the next 2 months on the I-5 corridor (Albany, Salem, Coburg, Eugene) until the end of September, so if you are going to be driving Sky Blue up that way after you get her, we would love to get together. We will be driving our MC all over Oregon this summer so you just have to tell us where you will be and we would be happy to meet up. We also love where you live and may get up there - who knows where a Mini will take you - only the fates and the godess of twistie roads can tell?
Oh by the way, I totally understand and appreciate what you are saying about finishing up your school year teaching school with your 8th grade class. Teachers like you that really dedicate themselves to their jobs are totally mis-understood and underapreciated, so I am just happy to know that you will be driving a Mini when you are not working yourself to death. And I thank you for all that you do teaching today's children.

Jedorme, hopefully Sky Blue will be ready by 3 July. I head out on the first jaunt of my road trip...family reunion trip. Then, I plan on heading back to WA end of July. The dates are not firm as this is the first summer in 4 years I have had off. I worked for out state education department for 3 1/2 years on our state reading test. Long story. So, I am flexible.
Yes, I would love to meet up and see your little beauty and your traveling canine. Once I hit the road, I'll share my blog link.
Until then, read this link and when the time gets nearer, I'll PM you with more info.
Can you even imagine the pics of OBs we could post nationwide? gokart in Arlington, ya'll in the PNW?
How do I do an all call for OBs on my road trip route?
Thank you for thanking teachers. In part, I am able to get my dream car because WA state has ponied up the money for National Board Certified teachers working in low income schools. I never thought I'd see the day.

Well....very exciting about the new OB going to deleriously happy owners!!! So, jedorme...this Thursday!!!! WOW!!! You will be the only OB/OB I've heard of!!
Bluesie...It seems highly probable that your OB will be ready for the 3rd, based on how we tend to get cars out here. They usually need (or like to have) a day to prep it but I'm sure they'll get to yours first if they know you're coming in town for a pickup. Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks gokartride for the words of assurance. The MA said that if the car comes in on time (this Thursday) they would use Friday to install the dealer options I ordered - we're putting black sport stripes down the bonnet and rear boot door, tinting the sunroof (we spend winter in the SOCAL desert) and maybe putting on the 3M invisible coating ("clearbra") on the front. I'm still waiting for a price on the latter. But they sounded confident that by Monday when we expect to get there, the car will be ready to rock & roll. But we've got hotel arrangements for 3 more days just to be safe.
We were thinking about changing the 16" performance run flats for some Michelin Exalto's but I think now I will drive it and see what I think about it. The trip back up to Florence, OR will be a good test - lots of twisty roads by staying off of the Interstates.
glennaa11 - I haven't even seen a real OB car yet so I hope (& think) that it will be a great color. But like you, I'll bet in the next couple of years, Mini will come up with some great new designs, colors or whatever that will make us all wish we had a new one. That's why there are so many flavors of ice cream! And also new Mini's every year.
Still no word on when Sky Blue will arrive. I've gone into ZEN mode for the first leg of the road trip.
Maybe I'm not meant to have her on the roads with the horrendous rainstorms we're having down in DFW. The skies just let loose again. Last night lots of streets around my parents (north of Fort Worth) flooded and were closed.
Jedorme, good luck on your OB arrival. Bet ya'll can't wait.
Till later,
Blue Skies, signing off in the MetroMess
On the Truck
Yahoo, I just got the call from MINI of Dallas that Sky Blue is on the truck from Charleston. Best scenario is an early Sat am arrival. At the very latest, Monday.
So, DRAGON, here I come. Gonna run as I am sneaking a connection after driving around in my Dad's pick up trying to hijack a WiFi.

Blue Skies et al., - I am totally amazed and impressed by the intensity of interest and concern I know exists on this forum. I never expected to find anything like this when we decided to buy the MC but what a great bonus on top of the great car.
Blue Skies - you make my head swim with all you are doing but just keep going in the direction of that OB MC and you will do no wrong, or even if you do, it wont matter. But stay out of those flooding waters - British cars are lousy swimmers (my first car was an MG & if you just drove thru a puddle of water, the batteries - Lucas, I need say no more - shorted out & I got to use the hand crank to start it).
And gocartride, you are absolutely right, we all get to have the colors that we can get when we buy the car and we can't look back - just enjoy what we have.
We hopefully have our MC at the dealer tomorrow and head out to pick her up as soon as we know she is safely at the dealer. Now the good times start to roll.
