Cooper Classic verses Cooper`

I am debating between the Cooper Classic and the Mini Cooper.
Here is a list of the main differences

Classic/Cooper

ASC+T stability control/DSC
15"/16" wheels
9 interior rings/16
no fog lights/front and rear (wtf are rear fog lights anyways??)
standard headlight/Xenon
no headlight washers/headlight washers
no metalic paint/metalic paint
roof matches body paint/contrasing roof colour
upholsteries leatherett/leatherette, cloth, leather

Base price quoted in Canada for the classic was $22,950, cooper was $25,900.

It does not seem like you get much for your $3,000.

Does anyone know if cruse (speed control) is standard?

If you own a mini now, what do you recommend?

Hey with your formula pick in CA. Go with the basic MC. Cruise control does not come standard in US.

Have you driven them yet?
I recommend that you drive them both before making your decision.

I am looking at the Classic too. Cruise control is included.

My concern is with the 15" wheels and 65 series tires, there's a picture on this thread; this blue is one of your 4 color choices.

You can get heated seats and fog lights as an option for $600 Canadian. Thats the only option except for automatic transmission.

Rear fogs are high intensity red lamps controlled by a switch, the Std MINI and Cooper have one central rear light, the MCS has 2.

You also forgot the power and speed differences.

There should not be a big performace difference between the classic and the cooper (tires, sability control). So basically can I justify $4,500 for the sunroof (the only real option I want)

I am now leaning toward the classic with "premium classic" package (fog lights & seat warmer) CDN total price $27,395.65 taxes, delivery, everything.

For the next step up the Cooper with sunroof premium package would be $31,900 total.

I did not get a quote on the Cooper S. I foresaw way too many tickets.

I am thinking mellow yellow.

Just curious on the breakdown your dealer is charging for delivery, a/c tax, admin fee, etc?

Your getting a standard transmission, so you can take advantage of the $1000 government rebate.

(wtf are rear fog lights anyways??)
An additional rear (red) light that is brighter than tail lights. You turn it on in poor visibility so other drivers can see your car ahead sooner. It's mandatory in Europe. Most cars have one light on the driver's side. Some have it in the middle, and some have it on both sides.

In the case of MINI, The standard cooper has one in the middle, and the S has one on each side. There is a toggle on the lower console to turn them on and off. If you don't spec them, you end up with a blank in the middle right of the toggle switches. Looks odd IMHO, so I spent $100 (U.S.) to basically fill the set of switches...

One of the best $100.00 to spend because it covers form and function.

Here is the price breakdown for Calgary Alberta:
2007 Mini Cooper Classic: 22,950
Classic Prem Package (heated seats & fog lights) $600

Freight and PDI $1,600
Admin Fee $395 (anyone get this waived?)
Tire Tax $20
Winter care kit $279.95
Total $25,844.95
GST 1,550.70
Grande total 27,395.65

Do the dealers wheel and deal a bit? Or is that the price.

MSRP is the minimum you can expect to pay. I am not getting charged an "Admin" fee, or "Winter care kit". My dealer did not even show those fees.

Anyone in Canada know how long the 2007 Cooper Classic is available for this year? My dealer says it's a limited time promotion.

If I do order now, my concern is by the time I get delivery, it will be mid June, and the 2008 models are just a couple of months away.

Advice?

The Calgary dealer is saying that if you order today: early July. They also mentioned that they just started receiving the 2007 models.

The Cooper Classic can only be 30% of their volume. So I guess when (if) they reach that you will miss out.

How much of a deposit do they usually want?

My dealer is asking for a $1000 deposit.

In regards to Winter care kit $279.95, it's optional, not required.

Admin Fee $395, I'm sure I can get this waived. They already offered to split the difference.

By the way I'm in Edmonton!
