Bluetooth cellphones - anyone got a list?

Neither my Verizon Motorola Razr or Cingular cellphone work with the Mini Bluetooth. Anyone out there have a list of compatible phones?

MINI's list is as long as a fingernail clipping, unfortunately.

My Nokia 6882 works fine.

My Motorolla works fine. To be honest, I have yet to fall in love with the system, but it does work. I am not sure the Motorolla phone model, but it isn't a Razor, and is on the Verizon network. It was harder to pair than any bluetooth earpiece I have ever used, but I was successful.

I didn't have the manual for either the car or the phone when I did it. I just played around with both. Sorry. It seemed to me that my phone could be discoverable, or look for devices that are discoverable. One looks for other devices and the other is one of those devices. I am sorry. I did it yesterday just by playing around and couldn't tell you exactly how.

I would be very surprised and disappointed if *any* Bluetooth phone failed to work with MINI Bluetooth. In order to use the term "Bluetooth" in the first place, the Bluetooth SIG (http://www.bluetooth.com/bluetooth/) requires that devices undergo significant interoperability testing. The Bluetooth profiles are standards, designed specifically to ensure interoperability among devices from different manufacturers.

But some caveats: there was a major upgrade in the relevant Bluetooth profiles a couple of years ago or so. Before that, support was fairly basic, allowing calls to be made and received, but not much else (the Headset Profile). One of the major features introduced in the upgrade was synchronization of phone books (Phone Book Access Profile). So if you have an older Bluetooth phone, you should still be able to make phone calls, but your phone address book will not be transferred to the MINI, as it can be if you have a newer Bluetooth phone.

Also, I understand that the MINI Bluetooth includes the center armrest with a provision for plugging in your phone to recharge it...since the recharging connector is not standardized, presumably only some phones will plug in. But even if your Bluetooth phone does not plug into the armrest, the Bluetooth function should still work.

My Bluetooth-equipped MINI is about half-way to Halifax now, before heading down to NY/NJ, so I expect to be able to try all this in person in 2-3 weeks.

My family and I have three phones and all of them work fine in our mini. My V3 Razr transfered its phone book right over to the mini. My wifes samsung works good but didnt do this...so we entered some voice activated ones for her. I think most phones will work....maybe just not to the extent of some others. I really like the bluetooth function...its very nice to have while busy with the gear box! To set have your phone and the Mini search for devices...once they find each other your good to go. We have two programed in the mini now....all it takes is my wife or I to get in the car and it finds the phone (in my pocket or in her purse). Pretty cool!

Standards are great...there are so many to choose from!

Seriousy, my brother leased an Acura with uilt-in Bluetooth. Would not work with his phone at all. Bought an Acura-recommended phone and worked like a champ.

There are standards, and there are standards...

I think the Mini-provided list is supposed to be phones that will plug into the armrest and charge and make use of the car's antenna, as well as bluetooth. Bluetooth SHOULD work with most bluetooth models.

The other issue point is getting an adapter so the phone will plug into the armrest, no idea how to get ahold of one. :(

3 Motorola Razr's and 1 Motorola KRZR, all Verizon, and they all work just fine on the '07 Mini BT.

my steering wheel has the buttons on it for the phone operation. i tried to locate the bluetooth using my treo 650 and the phone kept reading cannot find any devices. my question is this if i did not specify/order the integrated speaker phone (even though i have the buttons on my steering wheel) would its have been installed anyway seeing i have the upgraded wheel?

If you didn't order it, didn't pay for it, you don't have it.

From a TRUE expert

Cheers comrades!

There is little in life I am an expert at... However when it comes to the
INFAMOUS BMW BT issue I feel I could host a lecture on the topic. I've
posted extensively in 2005/2006 on a myriad of BMW boards. So rather
than beat a dead horse let me give you the following;

It is my understanding the Mini BT system is the same as that found in BMW.
I've ordered my new MC with NAV becasue I find the BT/iDrive system to
work FLAWLESSLY. I am a RARE breed. I vehemently disagree with the
automotive press; iDrive (IMO) = intuitive and smart! HOWEVER,....

The integration of phones has been spotty at best. In fact I cancelled my
original order of my E60's and waited another 10mo's just so I could have BT.
Unfortunately the system works BEST with BMW "approved" phones. MOST phones
will pair/work to a certain level but to have FULL INTEGRATION (i.e. address book, etc.)
you'll be forced to chose from the very short list of phones.

In my case I had to change carries becasue (at the time) the preferred phone (T637)
was only offered by a competitor. So I switched, got the phone and all works swimingly.
I also have a TREO and it works fine but loses the connection often and has limited functionality.
The T637 (and like) while out-dated are the best for optimum compatibility. Since I made the
investment with the E60's I purposely ordered the BT package (with armrest & cradel) so I could
just "plug-n-play" when my MC arrives. Not to mention "hands free" becomes law in CA in a few months!!!!!

Another thing to note (for those with NAV) BMW constantly has software upgrades. When I first got my
E60's they were on v13.6, I just had them upgraded last month to v27.1! The point being, even if things
don't seem to "work" initially, rest assured BMW/MINI will have an upgrade to remedy it at some point.

Feel free to ping me if you have questions... And keep in mind, what I say
only applies if BT system/software is the same used in the BMW TCM.
I could be WAY off too!

Okay sorry to bable.

Cheers,

Anyone know... is the voice control a PHONE thing or is it the Bluetooth control through the car?

In other words, do I need to activate anything besides bluetooth (and pair it with my car) to get the voice dialing to work?

suggestion - read the book that came with the car - it's very limited in the commands it understands.

Thanks. Once I get the car I'll check it out.

Now if I HAD the book, and the car, I could probably devise my own answer to that question. However, I'm new to this whole "bluetooth built in" thing and I want to learn about this feature and have realistic expectations of it once it arrives. My MA says it is "very nice."

So anyway, I don't know where the bulk of the "responsiblity" lies in the system's capablities: does the car do most of the work, or it is simply providing a conduit to the phone's functionality, and if the phone doesn't have voice dialing, neither will the bluetooth function of the car.

And Krut, I promise to read the book that comes with the car, once the car comes with the book inside. Cover to cover. Obsessively. It's just how I roll.

Where can one see what base plates are available? I was shocked to see that the system did not come with an adapter or base plate... So far, the most dissapointing thing on my car!

Here's a web site: <http://wireless4mini.com>. Calling the Bluetooth 'HELP' line built in to my Mini pointed me there. It lists phones 'tested' with the Mini.

So, I bought a new phone from that list (Sony Ericsson W810i), but it still won't transfer the phone book to the car. Sigh.

My phone is not on the list, but it works fine once I figured out how to pair it. The phone is a Motorola Pebl that I bought from Motorola unlocked (GSM). While it is not tied to a carrier I am currently using a T-Mobile SIM.

Don't quote me, but I think any new BT phone will probably work, complete with address book. I picked up my car 5 weeks ago and the MA paired up my Tmob Pearl (released 11-06) right away. The list they have is ancient/worthless. If you have to enter a PW it's 0000.
