GRILL BADGE FOR O7

Does anyone know if an r53 grill badge will fit an r56?

The magnetic badge clip should fit just as well on the R56 MCS honeycomb grille or the MC slat grille.

Cymru Steve,
Are you going to put a Welsh Dragon on your roof? I've always thought that would a great roof graphic for a MINI.

Thought about it, I must be honest. Not sure how it will look on a PW/B though.....

Cooper Flags make a full roof, full roof with sunroof and sunroof only Welsh Flag graphic:

Very tempting....

Do you have the sunroof? I think it would go great with PW. If you don't have the sunroof, the flag would cover all of the black roof and look great.

Or, take an exacto knife and cut the dragon out of the flag. Red dragon on a black roof would look good.

Yeah, I've got the sunroof....I'll wait until I take delivery to get a better feel for what it may look like. I can always get busy with Photoshop to give me a good idea.

Maintaining the Welsh theme, I wish my Whalen Welsh Dragon shifter **** would fit the R56. Word from Doug Whalen is not good: "It will slide on, but the snaps will not reach the groove, so the **** will come off with even the slightest upward pull." Shame, it's probably my favorite MINI upgrade....

So Doug, just to confirm, you can make a shifter for the R56? Do you still have the 'template' for a Welsh Dragon?

Mistro: why don't you make me an offer?? It's only 4 months old - ordered 11/16/07.

I save all of my engraving programs. And even if I would accidentally delete the program, I would most likely still have the geometry.
As long as I have the geometry, writing a new program is a two-minute job.

Here's the scoop on the R56 shift **** story.

The ***** are no longer a "separate" piece; MINI has gone to a one-piece ****/boot/trim ring assembly.

That said, the **** CAN be removed from the boot; it simply snaps into place, and can be pulled off.
The boot material folds over this small plastic small ring, and the stem underneath the shift **** snaps into the ring.

In addition to going to the ****/boot/ring assembly, they have also lengthened the distance from the top of the lever to the locking groove, which means a pre-07 **** will not fit an 07 car properly, and vice-versa.

The GOOD news (for me, anyway) is that new dimension on the shift lever is the same dimension on BMW shift levers.
For me, that means that the attachment mechanisms I make for BMW ***** will also fit 2007 MINIs; so I don't really have to do anything new.

The only thing that remains in question about the **** fitment on an R56 is whether, after the stock shift **** is removed, the boot will stand up on its own. The material may not be stiff enough.

I just shipped a **** to an R56 owner today. I'll know a lot more after he receives it and tries it out for a few days.

I'm thinking that the worst-case scenario is that I'll have to make some sort of collar to fit up inside the boot and hold it up against the bottom of the ****.
I'd make it from Delrin or another type of plastic, held in place on the shift lever with a set screw.

Very nice!

I just bought the attachment mechanism from Doug (as used on the pool ball *****) and am playing around with turning some **** out of various woods. I'll probably end up with a different **** for each day of the week.

Anyway, I'm having fun. One way to deal with waiting for my PS MCS to arrive.

Good info Doug. Please post any feedback you receive and any updates you can give.

Here is a comparison of the two different shift levers, to illustrate why a pre-07 **** will not fit properly on an 07 lever.

Here's a pic of the 'beta' test in a R56.
The boot naturally rest against the bottom of the locking ring.
It sure is nice to have the Shift Machine. I have one on my R53 and I was really missing it. This one fits a bit more snug than the previous one.
I'm very pleased.

Looks beautiful and I'm glad to hear everything is working well.

Doug: looks like I'll be ordering again very soon. Will be in touch.

Thanks,

Steve

Which is which? Is the tall one the 2007 lever?

Sorry; too much on my mind, and not enough mind.

Yes, the tall one is the 2007.

The dimension that they changed to is the same for all BMW shift levers.

Who knows? Maybe next year, the design engineers will switch it back.

Will soon be upgrading to a 2007 Whalen, so this one will be going on eBay pretty soon - unless of course I get a decent offer from someone on this forum.
If you're genuinely interested, PM me with an offer and we can go from there. I have a valid PayPal account and will ship from Virginia Beach via USPS Priority Mail. The **** is just 4 months old, cost $150 new and is naturally in fantastic condition. Let me know if you have any questions....

With a Whalen Shift Machine in place is the total height still taller than the stock set up as seen in the 02-05's or is it the same or shorter than stock?
