key fob must be inside to start the car?

It would not be possible for someone to steal the car with you outside the car.
For all of you with the comfort access system, is it true that the fob must be inside the car for the engine to start? So if the fob were just outside the door it wouldn't work? I'm only wondering because when I went to test drive a 2010 MCSa...I tried to start the car while the MA had the fob just outside the door and it stalled 3 times. I thought it was the ever-so-popular HPFP/warm start/stall issue. But then, when the MA got in the back seat for a second test drive, the engine fired up right away.

Have any of you with comfort access tried starting your engines with the key fob just outside of the car and resulted in stalling? Thank you very much for your help!

Kind of hard to start the engine if you don't have the clutch pressed to the floor...lol Hard to do that from outside the car.
