Got the bad news that my 2006 Ford Explorer is not long for this world (I've been driving Explorers for 15 years and since the kids are all mostly out of the house I don't need an SUV anymore). So when I called my wife and gave her the bad news she said to meet her at the local Mini dealership after work. I test drove every model they had (used) and fell in love with this one. I live north of Chicago and where I purchased my Mini is the upscale dealership (Mercedes, BMW, Bentley etc) so they have a lot of what we call North Shore cars. These cars are usually not driven very much and the owners usually pay in cash (wish I could but they won't accept $20 for a Mini). Anyway, this is
a true 'North Shore' Mini, a 2013 R56S with just 9,700 miles on it. I couldn't pass this one up (well I could have but I would have been kicking myself). I've been driving it for 2 weeks now and I love it!!
Purchased my Mini 2 weeks ago and I love driving it! My 2006 Ford Explorer was on life support and needed more work and $$ than I was willing to put into it. Thant and it had 215,000 miles on it. One thing I will have to start paying attention to is speed. I looked down at my speedometer this morning and was doing 75 in a 55! I'm also ignoring the jokes from the funny people; i.e. 'hey, when you break down I'll just put it in the back of my truck.'
My Mini was what you call a true North Shore car (I live north of Chicago on the IL-WI border) and for a 2013 it only had 9,700 miles on it. My wife says that if the car is right it will talk to you and this one did.
I bought my r56 last year for my 21st birthday and have so far done a manic stage 1, a m7 cold air intake, m7 strut bar, a lot of blackout pieces, and window tint. Will be adding my new roof rack hopefully Tuesday, as well as a stage 2 tune, new exhaust, downpipe, and intercooler this summer!
Yep. Triple black is great and the color then gives it a pop. They were focused on the fashion, young professionals in Europe. Popular in Italy and Japan also. Pretty rare here as I have only seen a few.

So, about a month ago I got my Mini. My youngest daughter needed a car for a job she has in Wyoming. After looking through several ads online her mother started taking her around to test drive cars. She test drove another Mini and was close to buying it but when we took it to our mechanic to have him give it a once-over he said that there was a couple issues (albeit small ones, oil leak, mis-matched tires) he said that he had a 2007 Mini that he built for his daughter (old engine was roached so he put one that had only 20,000 miles on it, the body has 80,000 miles) but decided to sell it once she chose a school out of state. One test drive later we called the bank and now we are a family of Mini owners.
