One from the last time at the track a couple weeks ago...starting to get the car dialed in...doing rear lower arms this weekend and seeing what kind of alignment I can setup after knocking out the guide pins.

So far Cat-less DP from evolve ceramic coated. Large front mount, cold side muffler delete, stuby antenna, painted wheels, light rings, handles, grill, I also have redone the headlights and fogs with turtle headlight restore.. looks so much better...than these pics

Anthracite wheels?

Are you using spacers on your MINI? I have the same wheels on my 2010 Mayfair S and I'm thinking of upgrading to Brembos...What thickness spacers are you using front and rear?

From my research, the R99 wheels (what he has) will fit, but JUST barely. So it's recommended to run a 5mm spacer to make sure it has more than the 3mm Brembo recommends. That's if his brakes are the factory JCW/Brembo brakes and not the aftermarket Brembo kit.

Bullit, I actually had my local Mini Dealership install a JCW Tuning Kit On my 2010 Mayfair S. I cannot begin to tell you how much better than stock the car runs. Smoother, quicker, absolutely zero gas pedal lag with sport button on or OFF!. Still under warranty to 100,000 miles or September 2016) as I got it a year ago (November 2013) as an off-lease unit. Had under 24,000 miles on him. John Cooper knew what he was doing. The ecu was retuned and cone style JCW filter and muffler were part of the package. I understand that Jan at RMW in California works magic also on the ecu. There are about 80 or more adjustments to the functions of electronic control that can be had as far as I know. (could be wrong as I have been before ) ...I'm very happy with the 37 mpg I got on my 700 mile trip to Phoenix and back to Tustin this past summer...yes, gas mileage went up! If I do get "Gears" on a dyno I will be happy to post the info obtained in these forums...

Hi all! I'm out of my element here since I drive a '95 NA miata. But, my mom has been looking at Minis for quite some time and she thinks she's founf "The one". It's a 2008 Mini cooper S with 65,000 miles on it. Now, I've heard about the timing chain in these R56 engines and it concerned me a bit. I've heard things about the chains just snapping during driving and have seen lawsuits over the damn thing which is very eye raising to my mom. Basically, my question was do these chains break only if they've lived up their life's or can they break at random times and just malfunction. How much does the repair cost? Also if you could provide me with all the happy facts and bad facts of this engine that would be great! Oh and sorry for making this article out of place

Nice Ride GHD!

I'm probably going to end up leaving it stock for a while. I have a 48,000/4year warranty left on the drivetrain. Don't want to do anything that may invalidate that... Especially since I hear what I think is the timing chain tensioner issue beginning to rear its ugly head. Unfortunately there is not a local Mini dealer here in Fort Wayne... I would like to go in and talk to them about the timing chain but the closest dealer is about 100 miles away. Will make a trip in the spring when the weather is a bit nicer.

upgrade

Timing chain issue should be free replacement under factory recall...JCW Tuning Kit is a dealer install and you have the full factory warranty still in effect...

I have looked for factory recall info on timing chain tensioner and haven't found anything. I contacted Mini and Here is their reply so I am going to drive to Indy or Detroit and have them look at my car I guess...

The problem is the timing chain campaign was never an official recall. That's why info on it is hard to look up. You may be able to call the dealer ahead of time before you waste gas making the trip if they prove incompetent. Should be able to pull your vin and they can tell you if any previous timing chain work had occured on your car under warranty.

My 2010 Mayfair S had timing chain warranty work done ( before I owned it) and had an updated set put in according to the records...
