Does the 09 have the auto wiper sensitivity adjustment on the Nav screen? That is the only adjustable option ont he tach display in my 07.

Don't forget: you must program both key fobs. I set mine for one-push unlock and when I came back the next day, it didn't work. I realized I was using the other key fob (which hadn't been reprogammed).

Anyone else?
I have the same problem, but for some reason, I managed to get it to work once since I have the MINI. I remember that it showed a "P<" in the display to indicate it turned on.

I haven't been able to do it again, though. I've tried multiple combinations, including park the car, engage hand brake, press start/off button, remove the key fob, press the left stalk up or down. Nothing. I've tried it in many different situations too, including in complete darkness (thinking it could be a sensor thing, speaking of which, where is it located?).

The user manual does not specify any special settings either.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

One thing I learnt from the 1st gen thread, also applies to the R56. The parcel shelf fits inside the back seats when they're folded down. That gets it completely out of the way. I just tried it and it works for an R56.

Yes, that's in the manual. Put it "good side" facing forward, with the cut-out over the hump. You don't need to have the seats folded down, though.

BTW, that's the sort of thing your MA should have shown you. How long did yours take to orient you? Mine took nearly an hour...starting with asking me to replace the gas cap to make sure I knew to tighten it properly. I've had BMWs for years, so I was familiar with many of these things, but I'm amazed at how little some MAs do to show off the MINI's features.

That's why I always recommend mine, Art Bernhardt at MINI of The Woodlands!

If the seats aren't folded down, there is no inside. I'm talking about the shelf sitting on top of the back seat, beneath the folded back seat backs, not between the seats.

Mine's an '07. I don't know what page, and it's too cold (and I'm too sick) to go out there to find it. I do remember seeing it, though.

I'm talking about the same shelf--the one that hides your luggage. The seats can be either up (normal) or down--doesn't matter. Don't know what you mean by "no inside."

I think what he's trying to say is this: When would you want to remove the cargo bay cover if you are not folding down your seats?

Also, I don't think this is in the manual anywhere.

I'm assuming your recommendation is to put it between the rear and front seats on the floor. Is that right?

You can remove the cover--doesn't matter if the seats are up or down. The cover "slot" isn't on the seats.

Yes, it fits just behind the front seats. Of course, you can't have rear seat passengers, but I think I've only had someone in the back seat once. (Except my grandson got a kick out of climbing from the driver's seat back there the other night.)

If I'm still alive tomorrow, I'll find it in the book.

my wife noticed in the right lighting, she sees a grotesquely magnified reflection of my face in the speedo. sure enough, when i looked at the speedo i saw my wife reflected similarly. it's like those make-up or whatever mirrors in fancy hotels.

You're not understanding what I'm saying. If you put the shelf between the seats, you're taking up space that could be used for something else. What I'm getting at doesn't.

With the back seats up, take the parcel shelf, put it on the back seat. The hump in the shelf is on the hump in the seats. Now fold the back seats down. The shelf is now "inside" the back seats. There's quite a big space inside the back seats there, you could probably fit other things in there as well.

When I say "no inside", if the seats are not folded down, there is no handy space to be inside of.

No it's not there in the Nav screen settings. Looks like I'll have to read the manual to find it, as I find the auto wiper to be overly sensitive stock and didn't know it could be set.

I understand now. I was referring to putting it behind the back seats in a vertical position, cutout over the hump. That can be done with seats up or down, and it's the way MINI cleverly designed it.

Don't you worry that you might "crush it" if it is "hidden" between the seats?

Well, I did live through the night, and I did check the book. You're right, it's not in there. It must have been in my MA's orientation, because I remember thinking that it is clever engineering. This is my first MINI, so I didn't get it from a previous one.

Oh well, it works.

I was, but after trying it there's a surprising amount of space in there.

The light bulb just went on. Thanks for the details. I too was having a hard time understanding the "inside" part.

ahhh. learned something new and useful today. once i get rid of the infant and toddler carseats that prevent me from folding the seats and a stoller that needs the extra headroom in the boot, i can finally retrieve that shelf thingy from my in-law's garage. last time i saw it, there were spider webs. hopefully, i'll remember this tip.

Infant seat, toddler seat, and a stroller? I'm impressed! I have two booster seats, and I thought I was making this a practical family car.

yeah, it's our only family car. i save money on gas and $400/mo nyc garage fees. i wouldn't have the patience to find street parking for a minivan. next step if needed, roof rack with storage box. otherwise, the mini always surprises me how much you can stuff in there even with my whole family in there.

when we do move out of the city, i admit we will definitely get a second, bigger, safer car, and the mini cooper will be all mine. hahahahaha.

My daughter throws (really!) her wheelchair into the backseat of her MINI. I haven't a clue how she manages to lift it like that. She slides over to the driver's seat, removes the wheels, puts them in the back seat, slides the passenger seat forward and flips the seat back down, then the rigid-frame chair goes back there, too.

She's very strong...

BTW, she's Ms. Wheelchair America, and she frequently mentions her MINI in interviews:

Here's one of my favorite photos:

inside the car close all door, turn to on (don't start engine), press the reset odo (i think at least 10 secs)
then your lower LCD in your Tachometer show 01.xx u can scroll thru that to see VIN, Production dates, ECU software version etc...
or when u reached 01.xx time your press about 1 secs, it switches to 02.xx pressing the button again would make both your tacho and biground dial in the middle to do instruments checking, which will illuminate all the warning bulbs in different colors and will move the dial (both tacho and speed) slowly to max and back to zero (very fun to see)

I didn't know that the R56 will auto lock itself and arm the alarm if you forget to do it. I guess it is possible I accidentally hit the lock button while shoveling snow just now ( I don't think so ) but 15 min (give or take) after I shut the car off and pulled key out and got out of the car and shut the door my alarm armed itself...
