Here's an interesting thought, a co-worker of mine who fancies himself an automobile collector told me he would hold on to the MINI with the missing MFSW because he says at auto auctions, these mistakes fetch more money. Of course, he acknowledged that it could take a few decades before this becomes significant. This came up because another co-worker just got one of the mistakes this past weekend. Her dealer will be swapping out the non-MFSW with what she ordered as soon as next month.

No it will never get more money because there is nothing special about it and you could make one yourself very easily by ordering the part from Europe. Limited production models like the GP, factory prototypes or test cars(like an MC with an MCS engine) or cars with some special history will be the only ones if any getting a premium over the same model and options.

Oh I agree with both of you, no amount of discussion could convince him otherwise, hence my slightly sarcastic tone.

I was promised by Mini that they would have an answer for me on this issue 2 weeks back. And even after several reminder emails, no one has got back to me.

So, first they make a mistake with the orders and then ignore us?

Some people are being offered $50 and some are getting $100 vouchers. Why the inconcistency?

And why is compensation for this delay so much lesser than the owners of those convertibles that got delayed last year due to a VIN # mixup?

Probably because there are alot more of them this time. I never believed the 40 number. My dealer had 4 himself.

Is the high number of cars effected an appropriate reason for Mini to be inconsistent in the compensation offered to customers in the same boat?

Sounds sneaky and unprofessional to me.

The convertibles had a very visible change to the VIN number on the car. If I understand correct, the compensated owners accepted those cars. Were any compensated that chose to re-order?

MINI made a mistake. You chose to re-order. You want more than MINI wants to give you. You choose to argue your case here instead of with someone that can resolve it. Work through your MA where you have the most leverage.

What RSB did with multiple IDs was sneaky and un-professional, wasn't it. Trying to stir up things to up his settlement, I guess. You aren't related to RSB are you? From your posts is seems like it from time to time. Funny that you and him were both PW cars too. Just coincidence I'm sure.

What rsb did wasn't right and no i'm not related. I believe there are others who got PW minis. Peppergirl is one of them and she's being offered $100 so why should Mini discriminate and give less to others? It's not a question of my wanting more, it's a question of Mini being fair. And I did contact my MA but MAs have no say in this matter, contrary to popular belief. If you don't care to argue with Mini about your compensation, that is your personal choice.

Maybe we are near the end of this story. I have an appointment next week to have a MFSW retro-fit. They say the parts are in and I assume they know how to do it. The dealer is throwing in a $100 gift certificate and a free tank of gas for two month delay beyond the original "around 30 days" estimate.

I did have to contact them about this to get them on it. Apparently there was a MINI memo sent out on May 9th with VIN numbers of the cars affected, stating that parts were available, etc. The dealer told me my car was NOT on the list but they were ordering the parts anyway. I also asked to get my glovebox opened but I don't know what's going to happen on that.

Thanks for the heads up - time to contact my dealer. I'm going to also call into Ask Mini and push more on the dash storage. It makes sense to get this done all at once. I am also going to update the dash storage topic over in the problems forum:

My car is at the dealer now. They installed all the parts and they aren't recognized by the car, doesn't work. Something about my car being out of the VIN range on the bulletin and they think it's a coding problem. They haven't given up yet.

Excuse my dumb and stupid question...

...but I don't want to start a new therad (people might laugh at it).

Ok - so my new R56 S just got to the dealer's lot. And it has MSWF steering wheel. And it does not have Premium Package (cannot have a car with suntroof).

Now - I did not order cruise control. MSWF implies cruise control or it will just be non-functional?

Thank you - MMM

Since I can't find a separate cruise control option in the configurator, I think it comes with the MFSW.

Yes, cruise control is part of the MFSW.

I'm getting worried that we never heard about the resolution of this.

Throw us a bone! Did they get it sorted out, or are you still driving around in a loaner?

Oh no - does not sound good. From inomis' blog:

R56 MFSW Saga….
Published May 30th, 2007
I’m in the process of getting my MFSW. It’s day 8 in the shop and the dealer is not able to get the parts working with the car.

Final Post

Just got back from the dealer. Once MINI got them the correct parts for my car they didn't have any issues. The MFSW seemed to work well once I found the cruise light over in the center speedo. The nice people at Checkered Flag gave me a tank of gas, $100 gift cert. for being 3 months late and a $50 gift cert. for missing an update call last Sat. on top of the free upgrade to MF. I bought a list of accessories and they rounded the cost down about $10 to match the certificates I had!

I did notice an infrequent noise/vibration in the dash on my freeway trip home. Sounds like a squeeky hinge on a gate. Only happened at higher speeds. I wouldn't have expected them to find it but perhaps something is not back together the way it should be. Hopefully it will be easy for me to track down and fix on my own. Not worth the 2 hour round trip hassel to go back to the dealer yet.
