This will fade away if we let it fade away. And if it does fade away, it will be a failure on our part to get what we deserve. Goliath will win!

Uh oh, you "won't be nice on the phone if they aren't cooperating." Wow, are you a suicide bomber standing in front of them or what?
"Height of corporate irresponsibility"? What grade are you snivelers in? Ever hear of Love Canal? The big Union Carbide blowout in India years back? THOSE are examples of the height of corporate irresponsibility. Geeeeeez.... Reorder your cars or shut up and buy some other brand. This is NOT the end of the world. You boys need some REAL problems in your lives to put this in perspective. Maybe a big bully will steal your bike or take your lunch money. Now THAT will be a problem!

Just talked to my MINI rep, Doug who just talked to Meg Brown in his office and he says there is still nothing official. They are waiting for an answer like us.

I sure hope MINI does the right thing. It would be a wonderful good will gesture to give the folks affected a free MFSW with their reordered cars.

Peace?

Ok, anyone who's dealt with MiniUSA on any number of things will not be surprised to get two different answers from two different people. I'm pretty sure my MA was about to give up my sale altogether when we went round and round about piano black being included in the 1500 price of the tuscan gravity seats... MiniUSA said it was, my MA said it was an additional 200.

When it came down to it, Meg Brown (a girl... however, DOUG in Meg's office IS a guy) was giving me bad info. She called and apologized to my MA for misleading me unintentionally, and leading me to give him a hard time.

It's worth noting that this is the first time Mini has done a product line change like this since their "rebirth" in 2001. My MA said he just has to be patient and wait for answers and info to come to him, and be ready for it to change. Things will sort out, and eveyone who wants a car will get it. They want your money as bad as you want the car. If the car comes in a state you don't want it in, don't take it. Simple as that. But ranting on HERE isn't getting anyone anywhere. This fanbase is so similar to Apple Computer's... everyone debates and discusses new products, but as soon as something wrong with a product launch, there's a unbelievably vocal minority who has to cry to the heavens that this new product that they can't live without (despite living without it until now) is ruining their life! Go figure...

By the way, just for the record, most consumer advisor experts do suggest that calling and talking to someone about an issue while still very angry is usually counterproductive. A few deep breaths, jotting down some notes, having reasonable expectations, and most of all non-arbitrary requests go a long way in getting a reasonable response. When you're a jerk, they just want to get you off the phone, they don't care if you're happy or not. I'm just the messenger. However, I will say that a lot of the items it seems like people want to pay them back for being made to wait for their car are pretty arbitrary. Thousands of dollars? An extra year on the warranty? Let's be honest... in MOST of the cases on here, people are upset that they want something and they can't have it, and so they're having a snit. In most cases, this isn't a case of not HAVING a car... it's not having the car you want when you want it. In a few cases I think people were excited about having bragging rights of having one of the first R56s in the country, and now someone else will get it but not them. It'll be ok... The car will be just as nice when it gets to you. And it'll be right. I'm in favor of Mini doing something to say "Thanks for putting up with this little SNAFU," but I don't think making someone wait a few more weeks for their car is that major an issue. I think the ultimate gesture would be, "Here, you had to wait for it and that's our fault. The MFSW is on the house. Thanks for being patient." But that's just me.

I'd sure be a lot more pissed if I sold my car and then drove to my dealer to get the car and found it wasn't in "take home" condition and had to be reordered then. Then you're out of a transportation mode. At that point, I think Mini owes a little more.

I really hope everyone gets things sorted out. I don't think anyone should "settle" for less than they really want, even if it means waiting. But the tone of people on here... it just doesn't seem like they are keeping much perspective on this. It's nothing personal. It's a product launch glitch and I predict that a company that makes billboards that talk to Mini drivers will do right by the time it's all done.

Lashing out at the company, and the people on here who normally give pretty darn great advice (in my opinion), isn't doing any one any good. And when it's all resolved, you might end up regretting some of the things you said. There are other human beings behind these usernames, y'know?

Sorry... that's just my thoughts. I don't have a horse in this race. But the situation is so similar to message board postings with every new Apple laptop launch (I'm a Mac afficiando.. What most of you are for Minis (and I'm getting there too... I just don't HAVE it yet), I am for Macs. Anyway...) that I had to respond.

Jmelrose made 2 interesting points here. I agree with the 1st point: Mini should act gracious and say SNAFUS happen. Sorry we had to make you wait an extra 4 weeks and you won't be among the first to have the R56 in the US. So, the MFSW is on us - If that happened, I would be satisfied.

On the 2nd point about finding out about the SNAFU at delivery time: Many of us would not have found out about this but for NAM or MF. Also, there are probably a few folks who don't go to such forums, so they will be in for a surprise when they walk in to take delivery later this month.

I have one word for the whiners.... HONDA.

Seriously, part of having 10 gazillion combinations - sometimes stuff gets messed up - especially when moving from one model to the other. You as the consumer should understand when ANY product coming out early in the product cycle - there will be glitches.

To use the MAC analogy - when all the Core Duo Intel MacBook and MacBook Pros came out a certain percentage of owners were complaining about heat and noise issues - the notebook worked fine - just noisy and got a little hot.

I'd look at this as a minor inconvenience and you can choose to order another car or go purchase a Honda Civic Si where your choices are limited to a few options.

wow.. newminifan and waiting4myr56..

both of you have the exact same join date on NAM (2/3). what a remarkable coincidence...

not to mention "both" of you have only posted in this one thread...

are we experiencing the same thing here? actually one of the two previous comments Gabe refered to had a link to THIS thread. The writing style sounded very familiar too....

I understand someone being upset over this, but making multiple personalities to complain about it doesn't help.

Nor does trying to make the list bigger:

This is so true. I am a Mac fan myself and if you read some posts at macrumors you would think Apple is the worst company on the planet. These coming from their biggest fans.

The similarities between these websites are uncanny.

I didn't want to point fingers, Motormouth, but after reading Gabe's post on MF, I wondered the same thing. I just didn't want to point fingers. I kind of hoped that, for someone harping over and over about "doing the right thing," that someone wasn't doing something to damage their own crediblity and so clearly NOT "the right thing" that I gave the benefit of the doubt.

Lesson learned, I guess.

Thanks for the kind words, by the way, to those who shared some.

I am a moderator on other messageboards that use the same software. It is usually fairly easy to tell when somebody creates multiple accounts as the IP numbers are logged. Same way that Gabe could tell. The moderators should check this. It certainly does not help the people who have been affected to have people shilling.

Oh, and I just got a new MacBook Pro - it rocks!

40 cars is not a lot in the grand scale of things - they were pretty lucky it was not worse. I am actually surprised that they are looking at a fix given the number of mis-orders. They could have told us tough luck without trying, and I do at least have a sense that they are trying - at least right now.

Now realize that its not all about going to bat for us. Even if we all re-ordered the dealers would still have 40 cars that they would prefer to sell with MFSW. And I am sure that they would like to be able to offer the swap as a dealer upgrade if it was reasonably possible. So there is good reason for them to work at it.

I'm glad everybody seems to be settling on a direction and moving towards getting their cars.
Lava,

Thanks for your response. I was curious because when I spoke to my MA he told me that "hundreds"" of cars worldwide were affected. It's amazing how different the reporting is from different sources.

I've resigned myself to kicking back and waiting to see what happens. I would like to see a quick and fair resolution because spring and the autox season will soon be here. I'm looking forward to the great backroads of Northern New Mexico.

Cheers,

Joe

There probably were hundreds of miss-orders. Many were probably caught before they were built. Somebody said they had 90 or so at their dealer, and 5 got built. So out of the hundreds of miss-orders 40 or so got built. And the ones that got built were all early orders, in all likelihood from dealers with high allotments who were getting the first cars.

Well, anyway, what is really worrying me now is how am I going to stop myself from making that "vvvrrroooommmm" sound in front of my salesman when I sit in my new car for the first time.

Don't know if my reordered MINI was hurried along or not. I reordered last Wednesday and as of this morning it's out of production and waiting for a carrier to the docks. I'm pleased, now the long wait while it is shipped.

At least one member in this thread has created multiple accounts to fan the flames on this issue (including to reply to themselves ). I am unravelling this now.

I am naming names

rsb (the thread starter) is also:
  • NewMiniFan
  • Waiting4MyR56
  • venus
  • SuziLovesMini

Multiple accounts are not permitted on NAM.

Moderation Sanction will follow.

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with that Dave - since it is a most flagrant violation of NAM ettiquette - do as you see just!

Depends on how many cars you're ordering ..... you might get the bulk discount and an expedition if you're ordering for four or more. One for each of your screennames. ...
