R56 Warranty questions
Warranty questions
I've read about a lot of issues being covered by warranty here and it seems to me that Mini has a really good warranty but is it 4/50 bumper to bumper other than wear parts such as clutch, brake pads etc or is it really bumper to bumper, all inclusive?
Extended warranty:
How long for how much $$ and is it also bumper to bumper?
Extended service plan:
As I understand it, an extended service plan covers scheduled maintenance for an additional year or 10k miles, whichever comes first. Correct? Any links would be greatly appreciated.
Just so you all don't think that I'm a lazy cuss... I have read the warranty on miniusa.com but it doesn't spell out the nitty-gritty details. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no extended warranty or service through MINI USA. There are some dealership offered warranties and service packages that do their best to rip you off.
The factory warranty is like this:
3 year or 36k mile "service" plan [scheduled oil changes and stuff like that]
4 year or 50k mile "bumper to bumper warranty"
12 year unlimited mile rust perforation [not surface rust] warranty
Hope that helps,
Ryan

the main warranty isn't an all inclusive bumper to bumper.
the wear items are covered by a 3 year 36k mile maintenance plan (which also covers factory required maintenance).
extended plan prices vary from dealer to dealer.

So, Mini doesn't offer any kind of extended warranty? I'm glad I asked about that.
4 years bumper to bumper (other than wear items) is pretty good in today's market. Since my commute to work is 3.5 miles one way, the warranty should last me for the entire 4 years. Of course, if the Mini handles anything like what is mentioned here, there will be way more than my usual number of trips up to the mountains.

Geico offers Mechanical Breakdown Insurance which sounds almost too good to be true. It's a 7yr/100,000 mile that covers everything other than wear and tear damage for a $250 deductible. I talked to Geico about it and the cost for this was very low (about $15 for every 6 months). And that is on top of Geico's already low car insurance rates. Did I just sound like a Geico salesman?
I'm totally getting this coverage when when my R56 gets delivered around 2/17.

That's pretty neat. I wonder if USAA has that sort of coverage. I'd bet my eye teeth that Geico would find more ways to NOT pay than would make it practical to have.
I can just see one of their bean counters refusing coverage on catastrophic engine damage due to a faulty timing belt (read: changed well within service recommendations) and me in jail after inserting said faulty belt into said bean counter.
One of their clients hit me years ago and it took a demand letter from my lawyer to get the money. I even had 3 witnesses that gave Geico statements that yes, their client ran the red light 3-5 seconds AFTER it had turned red.
IMHO, Geico = the devil. The gecko on their commercials = the devil's Mini-me. *shudder*
