My order went in today for a March build. I'm still a month away from a Production number, much less a VIN...

Sigh... I'm waiting to wait.

Hi All,
I DID IT!!!
Ordered my MINI today --- YIPEEE HAPPY NEW YEAR TO MEEEEE!!!

MCS -- 6 spd
MellowYellow/Blk top
Bridge-Spokes/Run flats (all 4)
Cold pkg
Cruise - radio contol Str Whl (leather)
Checkered carbon cloth upholstery -- standard checkered silver interior with Mellow Yellow colorline
Might go back and add the sunroof -- but trying to keep the cost down.

MA said should be here end of Feb. and he has production numbers which he'll get me early next week. Have others had to wait for Prod #s?

Thanks Krut
I've read lots on this and other forums about Xenons. Most people say once you have them you'll never go back. But it's +$500 as is the LSD. I planned on getting driving lights and blk stripes later, some people said that both Xenons and driving lights is overkill and I do want the driving lights eventually.
I've not heard/read any discussion on LSD. Is it worth the money? I'll be getting snows/steel whls for the winters, later.
I certainly don't want to do donuts in rain, is this goig to be an issue without LSD?
I'm about at my spend limit (I'm squeezing into a stripped down MCS rather than a fairly well endowed MC)-- but if I'm going to be fishtailing thaspend is worth it. What's your take?

Get the LSD.

I didn't get it on my '05 and kicking my butt over it.

The '07 will have a LOT more torque, which will cause more wheelspin. If it's installed after the fact, then it's a $2,200 decision.

Going without the Xenons is a good idea IMO. That can be rectified with $400 driving lights down the road.

I went without Xenons because the R53 Xenons were'nt bixenon. The highbeams were only halogen and therefore had the same distance capability as the base headlights. The driving lights were a much better investment. The '07 comes with bixenons, so the new one provides a much better reason to get them, but I'm sure a set of driving lights will light up as much and maybe more than the highbeam xenon.

And more importantly the LSD enhances the driving of the MCS to an even higher level - if you're not a spirited driver then forego the LSD - but if not then you won't really need it. Your car comes equipped with ASC so you won't be spinning your wheels too much.

On one hand, it is a front wheel drive car with a front engine so even without LSD, you've got lots of weight centered over your drive wheels to give you traction. I DID opt for it, for the same reason HotRod mentioned, which is that I don't want to find out that I want it for autocross later and then have to pull my gearbox and crack her open to add it. Very expensive compared to the $500 factory install. Even for competition LSD is not manditory, but you usually find out the hard way that you're getting wheel spin when in a tight bend one corner lifts and can't get good traction. A good LSD prevents that problem. Not a necessity, more of a nicity.

If you want to figure out how necessary LSD is in cars with this kind of layout and this kind of power, look to other manufacturers and see if they offer it from the factory and if so if it's an option or standard. And then look to see if they put it on the performance packages.
GTI has EDL (electronic Differential Lock) standard.
Civic SI has Helical Limited-Slip Differential standard.
MazdaSpeed3 LSD standard
When reading about LSD on a Renault Megane they had this to say, "Limited slip differentials are a common feature on competition cars, both in rallying and in Formula 1, although they can call for a certain degree of driving skill as a result of the torque steer that can be transmitted via the steering wheel in some situations"
I'm surprised that Mini hasn't opted to roll the LSD into the "S" Cooper given the high torque. Given time I believe that they will, but for now BMW wants you to decide for yourself and pay for the difference.

Ordered yesterday -- NY, US;

MCS
Mellow Yellow/Blk top
(debating BLK hood stripes -- prob add later -- easier to add later them than take them off later)
16" Bridge spokes w/runflats
Cold Pkg
Cruise/controls/Leather Steering Whl
Standard check/silver Dash
M Yellow Colorline
Cabon/check cloth seats
Might add Chrome line interior -- although I'd like to see the interior without it. Seems all the photos I've found here of the interior of the 07s have chrome.
Cloth mats
and a bill for $22900
Was going to get a new 06 MC for 21000 (with more stuff) reduced to 20500 but I think getting a lesser appointed 07 S for about 2000 more is a good deal and I get to add to my downpayment while I wait (patiently?).

This is also very close to what I'll be ordering. I'm not getting the Premium or Sport, instead it will be SAT/NAV and Audio Package. Still don't know about the seats, but they'll be black. I too have been waiting since 2001 but had to wait until I finished paying for my kids college.
