Which is cooler?

So for those of you that have configurated your dream MINI on the new site, you've probably noticed a new, no-cost, option for the tail lights. In addition to the light having a MINI logo, that turn signal area also has 2 options for colors: orange and white. Now which are you all picking? And does this depend on the color of your MINI? I'm planning to spec a Pepper White, and think that the clear turn signals would match, but on the other hand, the white seems to present a disconnect from the rest of the cluster. What does everyone think?

I think it really does depend on the color of your MINI and what you want in terms of limiting the palette. I'm definitely staying w/ amber...same for the Cooper repeater, too.

I completely missed that option Azn. I'll have to revisit the configurator and see if there are other no-cost options.

I've seen this talked about, but I haven't seen it. Does anybody have a pic?

I only saw the white option for the lights and nothing about the mini logo. I think that any big contrast between the blinkers and brake lights are the only way to go. You can't trust the idiot behind you. Same color blinks&brakes, or similar, are just tempting fate! MellowYellow for me!

That's an interesting point, having the contrast would make more sense. I've read here (I think) that the bulbs are orange and the indicator lense is white/clear, so the contrast is still there. There are bulbs being sold elsewhere that show silver when off and orange when lit, so the aftermarket folks can have the white/clear look even when off.

Here's a pic of the MINI logo in the tail light.

The clear lenses still have amber bulbs under them. I've changed mine to silver bulbs that flash orange as I think they look much better, there are some pics of the difference in this thread

I don't mine Yellow bulbs, they are easier for other cars to see, i just don't like when the glass is tinted yellow.... reminds me of my old honda civic, which i had to go to the trouble of putting in my oven to remove the tint...

(i put the headlights in the oven, not the whole car)

I HATE red blinkers
I purchased German Spec clusters w/SilverVision bulbs for my R53 in order to get rid of the US Spec red rear blinkers and will make sure that if I order an R56 I get the clear repeater lenses on it as well

I was at our dealer today, and they have an '07 S with the "Clear Signal Lenses" option. I first noticed the rear signal lenses. The lenses in the headlight cluster ARE clear, and they have silver/orange bulbs. Looking at the lights straight on, the signals still appear orange, but fainter than the orange lenses. Move off to an angle, and the orange almost completely disappears. It looks really good.

It's a $100 option. If you want to get rid of the fried egg look up front, I'd definitely spend the money.

I'm not a fan of the full clear lenses, but I'd definitely go for the clear in this case. A bit better in the rear, and MUCH better than the fried egg look in front.

OOOMMMMMGGGG!!! i missed this option!!! this is a very important option to me. my car is already built and on the boat. im very upset that i overlooked this. my car is a DS/B MCS and the yellow is going to muck up the simple colorless look. agggghhhhh!!!! i wish i saw this thread before i ordered. and its only $100.

Before you ordered did you go over your spec with your MA. The option is easily missed on the website.

I have the white lenses all around. I think they look great, especially the front ones, which give a completely clear effect to the headlamp assemblies. That said, I suppose the orange lenses would look better with some colors, like yellow, maybe black, BRG, and light silver. The white lenses look good with sparkling and dark silver, pepper white, and the blues.

Bummer. I've built a few '07s on the configurator, but I don't think I've ever seen this option. And even if I did, I'll bet it only shows the taillights - not the fronts. I only found out about it today, and only because I happened to see the clear REAR signals on this car. I also noticed the clear fronts, but it took me several minutes to connect the dots as to why that particular car didn't have orange front signal lenses like all of the other '07s on the lot.

im actually considering not taking the car and ordering another one. this is a very big deal to me. no sporty cars these days have any ORANGE on their lights, especially the rears. these white lights should be standard on the MCS. now the back of my 2007 MCS is going to look like the back of a 2003 cooper (no offence). the fronts dont bother me as much as the backs. how much do you guys think a swap would be at the dealer? anybody have picts of the DS MCS with orange rears and then white rears?

I think you're shooting yourself in the foot if you do this... give the aftermarket group a few months and you'll be able to swap these out. Why put yourself through more months of waiting instead of motoring?
