'07 Mini mods on 1st generation

Has anyone thought about the possibility of fitting '07 MINI parts or accessories to a first generation MINI or are the two versions to different?

Most everything is completely re-designed, but we just don't know yet what might and might not work.

I doubt you'll be able to use anything more exciting than a floor mat

I thought I read that the GP uses the 2007's aluminum rear control arms. Maybe they'll fit the current model.

New seats look great in black with red inserts

I hope to get a hold of a pair next year

I like this thread so now I can make a list of what to snag off R53 when R56 trade-up time comes around say when R53 warranty is aboot to expire....

UJ Valve stem caps
UJ Plate frames
Boot box (maybe?)
Mats (maybe?)
S2000 Stub Ant

I hope the antenna assembly works. Seems like there will be enough room in there for the nav and sat bits.

Anymore thoughts now that we know a little more about the next generation?

I think the suspension mods should carry over. I'm not completely certain, but from what I've read, it seems like the same components were used.

the R56 uses the alu rear control arms that were designed for the GP rather than the big clunky steel ones :]

It is unlikely the front sway bar would transfer. But the rest is pretty likely.

Forget The Wheels

The wheels probably won't work. Virtually all MINIs have wheels with holes for 12mm wheel bolts. Sometime around June 2006 the factory began mounting the wheels to the cars with 14mm wheel bolts. So not only are the wheel bolts themselves different (different size), but on the 2007 they have larger holes in the wheels for the wheel bolts. This would also mean different hub, different brake discs, and different wheel locks, among other things. Finally, the lug bolt removal tool in the took kit should be different between 2006 and 2007.

Those are just a few of the things I can think of right now.

Cheers,
Bruce

The new MCS may be one of the only cars where a remote-mount radar detector can be as sensitive as one mounted in the window, owing to the high mounting location available in the scoop.

I was thinking about getting an R56 S and putting an MC Bonnet on just to have better lines/looks since the scoop is pointless.

The wheels are no different as far as the cars fitted with the bigger bolts. Just the bolts are different (and accompanying fitment hardware).
