'07 Announcement Date?

What are the predictions for when the '07 MC and MCS will officially debut with final specs?

Is this usually done at a car show or a special Mini/BMW event?

Does anyone know when the '02 - '06 were done, it may be a good basis to narrow down when we may expect the '07 announcement date.

Lastly how soon after annoucements are you able to order one? Oct? Jan?

I didn't have any interest in MINIs till last spring when I bought my '72 Inno Mini, otherwise I would have kept track of these things.

Here's a complete timeline on both the next generation MINI and the current MINI: Next Generation MINI Production Timeline

That's a good link but only half the picture. If they say order by May if you want the R53, then by June or early July the '07 has to be announced and be available to order U.S? If productions starts in Sept. for Europe then the announcement would need to happen by June anyway? Otherwise there would be a 2-4 month gap where you coudn't order a MINI.

Just trying to get a feel for when they announce them not when production actual starts.

Another thought is, would it possible to choose between an '06 or '07 for perhaps the month of June for the U.S?

Well it's assumed that there will be some time in there were there will be no new MINI hatchbacks being produced and coming to the US. And knowing what some wait times are the source in the story recommended getting your order in by May to ensure you have a spot before the cease non-pre-spec production.

Hmph, guess I'll dig through old press releases to see around when or what car show MINI announced production specs in the past.

I'm going to wait for an '07 MC. There should be a good improvement in fuel economy whether the U.S. gets the 118Hp and/or 140Hp over the current MC. Would be nice to have an idea of what's going to be available soon.

For those going for a MCS it's probably a much tougher decision. Would be nice for them if they had both '06 and '07 specs on the table. To make things worse the window for such a situation would be small.

Hope I can narrow down spec release date and when I can order one.
I'll start diggin some more.

The '06 / '07 situation is the first time for the new MINI so there's not a lot you can look to compare against. Gabe / Motoringfile is about the best place to get info.
Other than that, your friendly MINI dealership MA should be able to help you - just say you want to be #1 on the list for an '07; they'll know when they can start entering order data for the new model.

Remember that waiting for the '07 will allow you the privilege of helping to sort out any first year teething troubles - especially in the brand new engine

No problem at all. I'm not worried about the '07 revision much. An engine designed by BMW and manufactured by PSA is a good combo. Assuming the U.S. has a non turbo charged option, the transition should be smooth. Looks like my return to motoring is many months away.

...unless I find a deal on a used MINI I'll be camping out in front of my dealer's door for day 1 '07.

..or unless I get some long lost inheritance then a JCW GP would be the car of choice.

I'll be scoping daily for such info with kid-like curiosity.
Thx!

Do you guys think I would be better off buying a used 02' with 40k+ miles now, or waiting until the 07's come out and try to get a newer MINI (03'-04') with less miles? How much do you predict the prices of older MINI's will drop?

Thanks,
-Cody

I'm going down there soon anyway, within the next couple of days. I have to shoot pictures, so I thought I would go down there and take pictures of MINI's! I will be sure to check out there used car lot.

I have another question:

I was looking at a MINI. It is as followed:

02' DS/W
panaramic Sunroof
40k miles, warrenty ends in July
In Cleveland (3-4months of Salt/snow

The guy told me he wanted $17k for it, becuase he said the dealer offered him $16.2 on a trade in. Does that seem like he's telling the truth or lying to me to get more money?

Thanks,
-Cody
