R56 Mississippi Mini Mechanic Needed
Mississippi Mini Mechanic Needed
Hello. I'm Retired Military settled in Mississippi. Got an 07 R56 "S" burning oil. I can't find anyone to put rings on it for me and swap the turbo. I'm you g but fight arthritis and can't do it myself. I will travel to you.
Sippi, you may find this hard to believe, and it doesn't work in all cases (like mechanical damage).
Back in 2023, I went shopping for a MINI for my sister-in-law. She just loved this little 2013 Justa Cooper, (N16 engine). The engine ran strong, no DTC, and it gets great gas mileage, but it was an oil consumer. By the time you hit hit 1100 miles, the engine was already a quart low. I ran a compression check; compression was 105 for cylinders 1-3, and 99 on 4.
Later I found videos from the "Motor oil Geek" so I tried this new Valvoline restore and protect for 3 oil changes a 4000 mile intervals. Now on a 5800 mile oil change interval the engine still consumed 4.7 quarts of oil.
Then I found this video and I tried the complete procedure. I figured the lower end of the engine (specifically the oil scraper rings on the pistons) were cleaned up by the Valvoline (step 1), so I tried the rest of the procedure. When I finished, I ran another compression check. Compression went from 105, 105, 105, 99 to 135, 135, 142, 134. I was amazed. I'm still tracking the oil usage, but in 1000 miles the engine has stopped consuming oil.
I didn't use B12 for the cylinder bath; I used Sea-Foam (liquid) ... available at Walmart.
In your case, I'd start with a compression check. If you have even compression across all cylinders, I'd give the Valvoline oil and the engine decarbon procedure a try. It's bunch cheaper than a complete engine rebuild. I've rebuilt an N12, with +.020" pistons and it wasn't cheap!!!
