Thermostat threads cross threading

Help!!!

I’m trying to remove my thermostat and one of my screws appears to be crossed threading on exit. Anyone know how to fix that? The first few turns are fine and then it gets tighter and tighter like it is cross threading

The bolts aren't gonna cross thread on the way out - maybe the bolt threads were damaged on install but it shouldn't be too bad if the bolt starts turning freely in the first place; it's probably some crud on the end of the bolt(s). Try loosening them as far as you can, then add some thread corrosion lubricant (like PB Blaster) to the exposed threads, and screw the bolt(s) back in. Do this back and forth as much as you can and the bolt will likely eventually come all the way out.

Thanks.
Yeah, I put the PB blaster on there and unscrewed them and they were just really really tight after 3-4 loose turns...instead of the other way around. Bizarre. They they out without any damage.
