Remove Key while cars running trick

I found this to work on both my R56 and my R60 and after searching I cant find anyone else talking about it.
There is a similar trick mentioned in another thread, where if you push the key in and push it once more but have the key still in the slot, you can start the key and take the key with you. This allows you to warm your car up in the morning, which is nice but you cant do this unless you shut off your car and restart it.

My trick is, if you remove the chrome ring/color ring off your key - you can start the car and then wiggle the key while pulling, this will pop the key out. I find this very useful for running into stores and leave the car on, while allowing me to lock my doors. You can also do this to warm up your car. You can either pop the key back in, or not...you just have to push in the slot when your done driving to turn the accessories off.
It only seems to be possible if you remove the ring, there is almost no give if the color ring is on the key.

Has anyone else stumbled upon this?

Never heard of this one....may try it with the Chile Pepper, chrome ring is missing on that fob.

Thanks for sharing.

I was wondering if you can then turn the car all the way off without putting the key back in?

Multiple times I have turned off the car and forgot the take the key out of the ignition. My other vehicles are keyless with autolock so I often forget that you can't just push the button and walk away.

Have you tried turning the car off with the key in your pocket?

Push the key slot in with your finger after hitting the start button to shut it off.

I tested it out last night. I was able to start the car, take the key out and then able to turn the car off and exit.

Not sure if it saving much but it would allow you to put the key in your pocket after you start the car and never have to get out out again (until you need to hit the lock button).
