N18 engine removal - engine stand, hardware etc
Hey y’all, I searched with no luck. I gotta believe a thread already exists please kindly link if you know of one…
I’ve gotta pull my N18 engine. I’ve got a hoist crane but no engine stand and no hardware.
if y’all had to do this, could you suggest an engine stand and any hardware and extra supports, etc to accommodate the N18?
many thanks in advance Merry Christmas

I got one of these when I rebuilt my N12; It's great engine stand!

If the engine were 750lbs, I would be really surprised. My guess would be in the 250 range fully dressed, less transmission.
This stand is probably good enough:

Yea, that one will do the trick; I'm spoiled, and like the crank handle on the Daytona. Makes it easy to rotate the engine as you work the top/bottom of the block.

I bought one from FB market place similar to what Nik posted. It is plenty. It actually turns pretty easy if you lift up a bit on the far end from the pivot.
BTW, I seperated the engine and tranny while it was still on the hoist. Used two saw horses with boards as a table. The tranny doesn't weigh much, I lifted it off the table to the floor.

One more bump mates… searched the R56 N18 threads for good how-to engine removal but couldn’t find anything step by step. Anyone got the links for threads or YouTube videos? There are N14 removals on YouTube which I know is a similar engine but not the same. I’ve got the car in front end service mode, radiator removed etc. just an exposed engine sitting there now. Winging it isn’t worst thing in the world but surely there is a good write up somewhere eh? Cheers mates!!
Since I removed the engine from my donor car, it wasn't that important so I didn't look for any videos as I have removed engines from other vehicles. When I did, I didn't take any components off the engine.
If I were putting it back in, as I disconnected things I would have used masking tape wrapped around all the connectors and written were it went or what it connected to. there are a lot of little electrical connectors in the engine compartment that are very similar, makes it easier to re-install/connect.
