Brake FLUID SPEC

Curious as to what SPEC should be used for Brake fluid flush in a 2019 JCW

Owners manual of course says nothing. What does everyone on here use. DOT 4 or DOT 5. MOTUL vs something else.

@BUGG ,

DOT 4 is the recommended spec for Minis and BMW’s unless you’re driving a McClaren, Pagani, and or Bugatti

Thank you Vanski. Looks like the Pentosin DOT 4 LV is what i'm going to go with.

Note that you're posting in the R56 forum so if you've got a 2019 you're in the wrong place.

That said, DOT 4 LV should be the right spec, yes. Pentosin DOT 4 LV will work fine but I like the Bosch ESI6 stuff: it's low viscosity, exceeds DOT 4 specs, and has a three-year replacement interval. It's relatively easy to find and not super expensive; I usually just buy it from Amazon.

As mentioned DOT 4. Also, be aware, DOT 5 is not compatible with DOT 4 spec fluid. Do not mix!

Can use DOT 5.1 (glycol based like 3,4, etc.)
Can not use DOT 5 (silicone base).
DOT 4 has low temp viscosity spec <1500.
DOT 4 LV (or 4+) <750
DOT 5.1 < 900 (good enough for ABS, etc.)
I use Motul 5.1
DOT 5.1 ESP <750
