R56 P2188 too rich at idle
P2188 too rich at idle
So I know this has been gone over a lot but I’m stumped. Bought the car 2007 Mini Cooper S with the check engine light on and was told it was the o2 sensor. Since then it has broke a valve so I have replaced all the valves and stem seals, but done the walnut shell cleaning and both o2 sensors are new. New MAF sensor and new fuel injectors and plugs and coils. It runs beautifully but still has that same code. I’ve checked for induction leaks and exhaust leaks. And it is rich as the tail pipes are black. No smoke though
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance

I have the same car, same P2188 problem. What check in Bimmerlink will help find the problem? I cant register mine until CE is off.

I need something better than Bimmerlink. It wont show sensors page nor dashboard, just a message telling me to "retry" What is better? I use Veepeak OBD2

edit: nope. returning VeePeak and Bimmer. getting a real scanner. Foxwell.

Rusty, I'm normally an R56 guy, but recently found a distressed R53 that had been sitting for 2 years. I picked it up cheap, and got to work. I installed the 15% reduction pulley and the Chinese version of the 380cc fuel injectors. The check engine light came on and I was running rich. I connected my scan tool and found my total fuel trim was -30. I talked to the very nice folks at Way Motor Works and the young lady said those Chinese knock-off injectors don't spray right; they won't even tune the car if those injectors are installed. So, I put the original 330 CC injectors back in, and the problem was solved.
What injectors did you install?
How many gram/sec are you seeing at idle from the MAF sensor?
Pull up your upstream O2 sensor current on a scan tool; add propane to the intake and make sure the O2 is going rich (negative current number).
