Water pump gasket seating advice

Does anyone have advice on getting the OE water pump gasket to stay put in the water pump gasket groove? The OE gasket pops out when I push it in. I figure there's some adhesive trick, but hoping someone who's used the combo can help.

If I can't get it, I plan on using the gasket that came with the pump, that's thinner but stays put just fine.

I’d be tempted to just use the one that came with the new pump. A little bit of silicone faucet grease might help keep it located for assembly, too.

Thank you! For whatever it's worth to someone who ends up here. The above to use the gasket that fits snuggly was good advice.

That said, Mini seems to have updated this gasket design a bit. You can see how in my original picture, there are more retaining bumps. That's the one I got from mini. I was curious, so I bought one of the Elring gaskets, which looks like the gasket pictured online everywhere. It has fewer retaining bumps, but it fit and stayed put on my pump without issue or the need for applying grease.

Here it is from ECS

For me, on a first-time install of the pump, choosing the gasket that made installation easiest was best because of the limited space.

Now I just need some Neosporin for all the cuts on my hands received from cleaning that surface in the limited space, or maybe some better gloves 😅
