Parts advice requested

I'm getting misfires on cylinders 1 and 2 and the unmetered air code. This car has been nothing but trouble and I'm tired of sinking money into it. I think I want to try replacing the Vanos solenoid. Is there a good aftermarket alternative to the OEM solenoid? If I can get rid of the code and misfires, I'm just gonna sell it and move on. This car (2010 MCS auto) is driving me crazy!

The "Unmetered Air" code means there is a leak at the manifold. On a 2010 Cooper S with an "Unmetered Air" code, my first check would be the PCV tube that goes between the cam cover and the intake manifold. They are made from a flimsy, cheap plastic that gets brittle with age, and can crack and leak. The leak can be VERY hard to diagnose because of the tubing routing. You can remove it, then check it very carefully for any cracks. The replacement part is cheap enough to just get it and replace it:

This is the vent hose on the rear passenger side of the engine, correct?

Yes, rear passenger side of the cam cover, and it snakes down below the intake ports and connects to the lower drivers side of the manifold.

That's about the only thing I haven't replaced, so far.

Does anyone know the best place to connect a smoke machine for finding vacuum leaks on this car? Thanks!
